We are seeking a passionate and innovative Social Studies Teacher dedicated to creating a highly engaging learning environment that aligns with our Vision of the Graduate skills-Communicator, Problem-Solver, and Collaborator-equipping students for success in an ever-evolving world.
The Social Studies Teacher will promote the independence of each student as a learner, effectively assess student needs and progress, and plan instruction to achieve meaningful learning objectives, including those tailored for exceptional learners. The ideal candidate will accomplish these goals through effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues and by utilizing engaging, inquiry-based techniques and materials in a supportive and dynamic classroom environment.
Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated ability to create a collaborative learning culture that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and deep understanding of the content to make them positive, productive and informed citizens.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Create lesson plans aligned to the Common Core State Standards and the Connecticut Social Studies Frameworks and deliver instructional activities consistent with the targeted learning;
- Create, organize and implement learning activities, such as simulations, debates and experiential exercises designed to enhance classroom teaching, support optimal learning, and develop new skills;
- Assist students in investigating their own questions and furthering their personal learning plan;
- Encourage student learning through peer collaboration, productive discussion, and writing;
- Guide students, individually and in groups, in preparing for different types of assessments;
- Collaborate with colleagues in the development and utilization of course curriculum and assessments;
- Participate on teams to develop social studies curriculum aimed at improving student learning and performance that is aligned to state and national standards;
- Provide individualized student support and mentoring;
- Assist in the selection of instructional materials, equipment, and classroom supplies;
- Provide on-going feedback to students through the use of formative assessments.
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
- Master's Degree is preferred but not required;
- Position requires the appropriate CT Certification in Social Studies (026)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form;
- Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints;
- Ability to handle and treat information confidentially;
- Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities;
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
