Organizational Overview
WeTrain Washington is a training, education, and career development non-profit affiliated with Washington’s largest local union UFCW Local 3000, that provides high-quality programs for the retail grocery industry. WeTrain Washington programs aim to promote job quality, economic security, workforce equity, and career pathways for participants through the creation and expansion of skilled apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship programs, employment pathways for underrepresented communities, upskilling and leadership development training for incumbent workers, and the development of training benefits programs for workers.
Job Overview
The Training Manager position will manage WeTrain Washington’s Community Pathways to Grocery Careers program. The role will coordinate with community-based organization (CBO) partners in their recruitment of program participants, prepare and instruct in-person classes, collaborate with the CBO partners and WeTrain Washington’s Engagement Director to drive graduate job placement, evaluate and improve curriculum, and conduct data entry & reporting.
Community Pathways to Grocery Careers Program Overview
WeTrain Washington has developed a Community Pathways to Grocery Careers (CPGC) program that recruits immigrant and refugee workers in partnership with local CBOs, trains them in customer service, food safety, personal safety, product information, problem-solving skills, and career pathways during a quarterly 40-hour, two-week bootcamp, and then places them in union grocery careers.
Responsibilities & Duties
Program Recruitment
- Coordinate with partner CBOs to organize, plan and schedule quarterly information sessions.
- Refine online application and application process, evaluate applicants and select participants best able to secure grocery positions.
- Develop new CBO relationships to increase the pool of applicants.
Program Instruction and Implementation
- Instruct the Community Pathways to Grocery Careers training program. There are ten four-hour classes over two weeks each quarter.
- Oversee the application, selection and enrollment process.
- Manage all program supplies and materials and ensure facilitation runs smoothly.
- Execute quarterly graduation ceremonies.
Program Improvement
- Distribute course surveys and evaluate data with support from Program Director.
- Develop program and curriculum improvements with guidance from the Program Director.
- Update and produce instructional and training materials.
Program Operations
- Create, update, and maintain all participant files.
- Manage all program communications.
- Provide administrative support for program.
Program Placement
- Organize, or collaborate with local labor councils to organize, quarterly job fairs for graduates.
- Recruit union grocery employers to attend job fairs.
- Support CBO case managers and WeTrain Washington’s Engagement Director to facilitate job placement.
Other duties as assigned by the Program Director
Qualifications and Skills
Required
- At least 3-5 years of relevant experience (instruction, training/education, program management, and/or labor)
- Experience providing trainings or instructing classes with adult learners; and/or experience providing training or instructing class with English Language Learners.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Detail-oriented and able to work well independently.
- Able to work collaboratively and effectively while prioritizing deliverables.
- Strong dedication to quality and success of program participants.
- Comfortable presenting information in workplace and classroom settings.
- Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
- Shares WeTrain Washington mission, vision, and values.
Preferred
- Experience/Background managing programs that serve Adult English Language Learners.
- Experience/Background teaching Adult English Language Learners.
- Experience/Background with workforce development or adult education.
- Experience/Background working in the grocery or retail industry.
Job Type: 1.0 FTE
Pay: $80,000 - $90,000 depending on experience
Please note: This is a grant-funded position, currently funded through September 2027. WeTrain Washington is actively seeking funding to expand CPGC both geographically and beyond the 2027 conclusion of the existing Department of Labor grant.

Schedule
- Office Work is Hybrid, Monday and Thursdays on-site, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday remote.
- Quarterly CPGC classes are 10 days of 6-hour in-person set-up, instruction, and classroom breakdown.
