Classification: Part-Time, Non-Union
Department: Building Department
Hourly Wage: $40/hour (Inspection vehicle and gas card provided)
Qualifications:
- Must be able to obtain Building Official & Building Plan Review Certifications - Must have been registered as either an inspector or plan reviewer for at least two years.
- Considerable knowledge of the materials, methods and practices used in building construction and stages of construction.
- Knowledge of the Michigan State Construction Code.
- Knowledge of all major types of building construction, materials, methods and practices and of stages of construction.
- Ability to recognize faulty construction or hazardous conditions and to determine effective corrective measures.
- Knowledge of the legal procedures related to the enforcement of the code.
- Ability to understand and interpret plans, diagrams, blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully, fairly, and impartially.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, homeowners, building owners, representatives of other agencies, the public and other employees.
- Must be registered, or able to become registered, as an Inspector and Plan Reviewer pursuant to Public Act 54of 1986, the Building Officials and Inspectors Registration Act.
- Graduation from high school, six years of experience in the building construction trade as a contractor, foreman or inspector; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that would provide the knowledge, ability and skills to meet the responsibilities listed above.
- A valid Michigan driver’s license.
