POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Nursing, the EMT provides basic to intermediate-level emergency and non-emergency care to the ill and injured, to include assessment of illness and/or injury, management of such patients, and transfer of information.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Under the supervision of a Physician Assistant, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse, performs physical assessment and examination including obtaining medical history and vital signs during medical encounters and document findings in the medical record.
2. Provides treatments and procedures according to medical orders and EMT protocols.
3. Assists with admission and discharge of infirmary care patients.
4. Provides screening and triage, according to written protocols, for routine sick call and emergencies with referral to professional staff for situations beyond EMT scope of their protocols.
5. Participates in quality management committees and activities.
6. Performs basic life support provided the employee holds a current American Heart Association certification.
7. Documents encounters, patient response, complications, etc., ensures complete and accurate charting and communicates information to supervisory personnel and physicians, in accordance with physician orders. Observes, records and reports symptoms, reactions, and changes in the condition of all patients.
8. Assists with orientation of new employees.
9. Assists physician as assigned.
10. Maintains confidentiality of inmate records.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The following requirements list the minimum to qualify. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
LICENSING: Currently licensed as an EMT or Paramedic in the state of Nebraska.
CERTIFICATION: Current CPR Certification
EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited EMT or Paramedic training program.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one (1) year of clinical experience; correctional healthcare
experience preferred
