TITLE Teacher Consultant
DATE OF POSITION OPENING On or about August 19, 2025
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION The individual selected for this position will be responsible to provide academic, behavioral and technical support to Local Educational Agencies and WMISD center-based programs (as assigned) while ensuring quality implementation of federal and state mandates
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support special education systems and processes in Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and in WMISD center-based programs (as assigned), including:
- Provide professional development for regular and special education personnel, parents of students with disabilities and the general public as deemed appropriate by the Special Education Supervisor or Assistant Superintendent of Special Education
- Establish a weekly schedule in assigned buildings to discuss issues with special education teachers and building administrators
- Function as a member of the building level Multi-tiered Systems of Support team (as requested and defined by that building administrator)
- As requested, assist the School Psychologist in administering various achievement tests and curriculum based measures
- Support special education teachers in Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and in WMISD center-based programs (as assigned), including:
- Serve as first go-to person for local district special education teachers
- Support special education teachers for curriculum planning, scheduling of student service times, and transitions (between buildings, grades, and post-secondary)
- Provide technical support with EdPlan
- Support AIMSWeb implementation
- Support local district onboarding process of new or not yet fully certified SE teachers
- Consult with local district administrators and special education teachers regarding students with high behavior needs, including:
- Support development of behavior plans and ensure fidelity of implementation (partner with School Social Worker)
- Support accurate and safe implementation of CPI: Crisis Prevention Intervention
- Serve as an in-person coach to model implementation of behavior strategies
- Support special education teacher to develop and monitor data collection
- Assist the building level Child Study team to proactively support student behavior prior to special education referral
- Consult with special education teachers surrounding specially designed instruction for students with Individualized Education Program(s) (IEPs), including:
- Serve as a resource of strategies to implement targeted research based interventions
- Guide special education teachers how to progress monitoring towards IEP goals and objectives
- Serve as expert in accommodations, modifications, and how to scaffold/differentiate instruction
- Support a continuum of programs/services at the local district/building level
- Provide support for co-teaching teams
- Serve as a liaison between the ISD and local school district, as needed
- Other duties as assigned by administration
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree or equivalent
- Full approval by the State Board of Education as a Special Education Teacher
- A minimum of three years of satisfactory teaching experience including at least two years of experience teaching students with disabilities in a Special Education classroom
- Work effectively as a team with WMISD, LEA, and community agency staff
- Make a conscious effort to solve problems in a professional, constructive, people-friendly manner
- Be well organized and work effectively with specific timelines
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Assist in the development of long-range planning and staff in-services
- Present a positive image of the WMISD
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and commitment to the mission and vision of the WMISD
- Keep up to date professionally
- Able to independently lift 50 pounds
- Valid MI State Driver’s License or State ID
- Must have own transportation to, from, and between assignments
- Ability to pass criminal history check, pre-employment physical, and drug screen
WAGES AND BENEFITS Salary based upon credentials and experience according to the WMISD Professional Federation Master Agreement. Benefits include paid sick days, personal days, federal holidays, and health insurance package, to include dental and vision.
