Description
The McComb, MS lumber manufacturing facility is looking for skilled Planer Machine Set-Up Tech with millwright/mechanical maintenance experience and a thorough and comprehensive knowledge of setting up, adjusting, maintaining and improving planer mill machines. This role will also work with the maintenance team and fulfill millwright duties across the site.
Key Functions:
- Setup the planer tolerances to maximize quality and production in the planer
- Communicate closely with Filers, Forklift Operators and Graders
- Learn and operate planer feeder/hoist includes feeding rough, dry lumber into the planer in an unbroken stream to keep lumber in the planer at all times
- Responsible for responding to quality requests made by the graders, adjusting planer and infeed speeds, adjust the machinery to maximize quality and production and performing knife changes.
- Turn lumber to ensure maximum grade recovery, searching for foreign objects embedded in the lumber, scraping mud and rocks off the rough lumber, selecting and culling pieces that may jam the machine.
- Operates breakdown hoist, operating incoming and outgoing chains, operates cut-off saw, belts to sticker and club machines, and clears lumber break ups and jams
- Make minor repairs to the machinery and maintains equipment, including but not limited to pre-shift inspections, blow downs, monitoring chains for plug ups, jointing knives as required, grinding planer and chipper knives
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of experience setting up/adjusting/maintaining/repairing planer mill machines
- Must have hands on top matcher (planer) setup and feed experience
- Perform all maintenance tasks including component replacements (bearing replacements, shaft replacements, etc.) on the planer
- Must be able to perform complete machine alignment (feed table alignment, guide, roller, long guide alignment, pressure plate alignment, cutting head level, etc.)
- Able to work safely and follow all company policies and procedures
- Must have acceptable work record
- Must be able and willing to use computers/tablets to troubleshoot and align/repair equipment
- Must have demonstrated leadership and team skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Good decision making skills.
- Able to conduct visual equipment inspections, perform basic preventive maintenance and assist maintenance in troubleshooting/improving equipment
- Able to monitor flow of material to and from the machine center and make adjustments as necessary to ensure production quality and quantity standards are met
- Able to perform basic calculations
- Ability to operate complex machinery
- Good hand/eye coordination
- Successful completion of assessment process, background check and post-offer pre-employment drug screen and physical
- Able to work any shift, weekends, overtime, holidays
- Able to work in extreme temperatures, in dusty and noisy conditions, while wearing safety equipment
- Able to complete mobile equipment training
- Able to perform all essential job functions, which includes changing saws/knives, lifting 2-20 pounds regularly, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, climbing steps and ladders, working from heights and in tight spaces, and standing or walking for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours.
