Planer Mill Set-Up Operator

Weyerhaeuser Company is currently recruiting a Planer Mill Set-Up Operator for our new state of the art lumber manufacturing facility located in Holden, LA. This operational role is key in safely ensuring the effective and efficient intake of logs into our state-of-the-art sawmill resulting in the manufacturing of quality lumber that will be shipped to our customers.

Key Functions

• Operate planer controls.
• Set up planer and make adjustments to optimize planer mill efficiency
• Perform PM on planer, planer in-feed and throughout planer as needed.
• Grind and set knives in cutting head, change heads as needed.
• Remove reject lumber.
• Operate planer in-feed station.
• Operate Planer at production rates to achieve plan.
• Operate planer, producing quality results.plan
• Safely and effectively perform tasks as directed by supervisor.
• Safely and effectively maintain housekeeping that will include cleaning debris from equipment, shoveling sawdust and any other housekeeping duties assigned.
• May support maintenance team members with troubleshooting and repairs as necessary
• Identifies and helps resolve other production flow problems.
• Assists in maintaining housekeeping standards
• May flow to work at machine centers where qualified to do so
• Perform quality control checks.
• Provide leadership within the work team

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 3 years of experience operating equipment in a manufacturing/industrial environment
• Able to work safely and follow all company policies and procedures
• Must have demonstrated leadership and team skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
• Good decision making skills.
• Able to conduct visual equipment inspections, perform basic preventive maintenance and assist maintenance in troubleshooting/improving equipment
• Able to monitor flow of material to and from the machine center and make adjustments as necessary to ensure production quality and quantity standards are met
• Able to perform basic calculations
• Ability to operate complex machinery
• Good hand/eye coordination
• Successful completion of assessment process, background check and post-offer pre-employment drug screen and physical
• Able to work any shift, including weekends, overtime, holidays as required
• Able to work in extreme temperatures, in dusty and noisy conditions, while wearing safety equipment
• Able to complete mobile equipment training
• Able to perform all essential job functions, which includes changing saws/knives, lifting 2-20 pounds regularly, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, climbing steps and ladders, working from heights and in tight spaces, and standing or walking for 2-3 hours at a time for 10 hours.
