Project Engineer (Houston) -Commercial / Industrial Construction

Note: This role will be 100% office-based from our Houston, Texas office.

Our Project Engineers work as part of the Project Management Department, supporting the project team through thorough and consistent document creation and control, communication, and a natural curiosity for continuous building knowledge. The ideal candidate will have at least one year in Commercial Construction, be process driven with an eye for detail, and enjoy working collaboratively with others.


Essential Job Functions Preconstruction

  • Produce meeting packets and minutes
  • Gather information from trades for schedule assistance
  • Track and issue all Action Items
  • Assist in bid package assembly
  • Gatekeeper; overall document control
  • Quantity surveys

 

Construction

  • Coordinate and Generate RFI’s (Requests for Information)
    1. Maintain up to date RFI log
    2. Communicate regularly with architect for prompt return of RFI’s
    3. Distribute responses to appropriate subcontractors/suppliers
    4. Post in record documents
  • Review and Process all Submittals
    1. Obtain submittal dates from subcontractors/suppliers. Notify Project Manager of delinquent submittals
    2. Maintain up to date submittal log
    3. Distribute copies of return submittals as directed by Project Manager to field and appropriate subcontractors/suppliers for coordination
    4. Maintain and record copies of all submittals
  • Materials Expediting and Tracking
    1. Track ordered material will ship per schedule
    2. Verify materials are received per job schedule
    3. Verify ordered material quantities were received at job site
    4. Document any damaged or shorted material
    5. Resolve any issues with III A through D above
  • Process Supplemental Instructions from Architect
    1. Distribute to affected subcontractors/suppliers
    2. Post in record documents
  • As-Builts
  1. Maintain up to date record documents posted with all submittals, RFI’s, ASI’s, changes, and other field conditions
  2. Update regularly Project Superintendent’s and Project Manager’s drawings
  3. Generate O & M Manuals
  • Project Organization
    1. Keep Project Manager and project team informed of all issues under your responsibility.
  • Travel may be required
  • Any other responsibility assigned by your supervisor

Education/Experience

  • Example: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Construction / Project Management, or equivalent required
  • Example: 1 years general construction experience in the commercial or industrial space 
  • Example: Proficient with MS Excel, MS Word, and project management software; familiarity with P6 and Procore is a plus
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment criminal, driving and drug screen
  • Must possess a current and valid state driver’s license and a clean driving record


Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties the employee is regularly required to make use of close vision to read engineering blueprints and reduced size black and white drawings, specifications, fine print, reports, schedules, estimates, spreadsheets, summaries, and other documents in either hard copy or computer monitor. Must be able to converse on the telephone and in person, use hands and fingers to write and type, prepare email messages with attached files, and use personal computers and calculators. The employee will periodically need to lift and/or carry heavy documents such as specifications and/ or equipment, weighing up to seventy-five pounds.
