General Summary
As a Learning Programs Supervisor at Whaleback, you will play a vital role supporting the Director of Learning Programs in shaping and overseeing day-to-day operations in our snowsports programs. This position involves collaborating closely with the Director to implement and continuously improve all learning programs, with a focus on maintaining a top-tier guest experience and fostering love for snowsports. Your responsibilities will focus on managing lessons and aiding the growth of the program, fostering a love for skiing or snowboarding, and ensuring the well-being of participants.
Upper Valley Snowsports Foundation, doing business as Whaleback Mountain, is a recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Enfield, NH, with a mission to maintain an affordable, accessible, and fun winter sports destination that welcomes all community members to discover the joy of Snowsports and become a lifelong snow enthusiast.
Essential Functions and Duties
As a Learning Programs Supervisor at Whaleback Mountain, you shall:
- Assist the Director of Learning Programs in managing the Learning Programs Department, including hiring/outreach, training and professional development of the Snowsports Instructors and Apprentices.
- Customer service communication, including managing the Learning@Whaleback.com email account.
- Occasionally instruct skiing and/or snowboarding as needed.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure a seamless and cohesive guest experience by integrating Learning Programs with overall mountain activities.
- Support the Director in reaching short term and long term goals (SALE Plan 2036) for program expansion and improvement, including budget management and resource allocation.
- Be knowledgeable about Whaleback Mountain's Learning Programs offerings; Engage with guests, community members, and industry partners to gather feedback and identify opportunities for program enhancement.
Job Specifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated leadership and management experience in educational or recreational settings, preferably in snowsports.
- Strong organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills; staff performance management and customer de-escalation.
- Ability to contribute to the design and implementation of innovative and effective learning programs.
- Knowledge of best practices in teaching and curriculum development.
- Flexibility to adapt to evolving program needs and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in using Google products, Entabeni POS, Entabeni CNS, Email clients and Windows or Linux.
Physical Demands of the Job:
The Learning Programs Supervisor role involves a range of physical demands essential for success, including:
- Ski/Snowboard Proficiency: Maintain an advanced level of skiing or snowboarding proficiency and a technical understanding of both disciplines.
- Extended Standing: Be prepared to stand for extended periods during lesson sessions, ensuring instructors receive continuous guidance and support.
- Weather Resilience: Embrace the outdoors in all its forms by being prepared to work in all types of weather conditions.
Certifications/ Prerequisites:
- PSIA-AASI Level I certification in Alpine, Snowboard or Telemark (or PSIA-AASI recognized equivalent) is required.
- Experience teaching and/or certification in a second discipline is a plus.
- Previous Snowsports teaching is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
