Summary

Whatcom County Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for a Park Attendant.

Under the supervision of the Maintenance & Construction Supervisor, this position performs duties associated with park maintenance and operations. Primary duties include cleaning and basic maintenance of grounds, facilities, equipment, and trails; supporting operations activities associated with facility rentals, range operations, revenues, and visitor engagement; informing the public regarding park rules and regulations; implementing safety programs for staff and park visitors; coordinating the work of peers, subordinate staff, and volunteers, as assigned; and assisting in achievement of Department goals and objectives. Complies with policies, procedures, legal standards and requirements.

The Park Attendant will be assigned to work in a variety of locations throughout Whatcom County Parks. The position will be primarily assigned to the Park Attendants may be assigned to cover parks in other regions.

    Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).

    Qualifications

  • Two years of post-secondary education in Park or Recreation Management, or similar field of study (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) AND 1 year of experience in park operations, maintenance and management.
  • High school diploma or GED AND three (3) years of experience in park operations, maintenance and management.
  • Additional Requirements :

  • Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.
  • Because work assignments include locations in Point Roberts, must be eligible to cross between the United States and Canada at time of hire and throughout employment.
  • At its sole discretion, Whatcom County may consider combinations of education, experience, certifications, and training in lieu of specifically required qualifications contained herein.
