Whatcom County Parks & Recreation Department is hiring several employees to assist with operations at Parks throughout the County. Please apply if you are interested in working outside in our beautiful parks system this Summer!

- Interviews will be held on March 4 & 5 and April 15 & 16
- Onboarding will occur March 31, April 28, or May 12
- Orientations will be held on April 10 and May 15
Under the supervision of the Parks Supervisor or Maintenance & Construction Supervisor, this position will perform a variety of tasks at County Parks. A typical workday may include anything from registering campers and collecting camp fees, to cleaning facilities, mowing lawns, or explaining park rules. The specific duties will vary by park location. Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Provide Park information to visitors and answer phones.
- Maintain Park facilities through light routine maintenance and janitorial services.
- Perform grounds maintenance work, such as cutting grass, weeding flower beds, pruning shrubs, raking leaves, and picking up litter.
- Maintain Park lawns using a mower, weed eater, trimmer, and various maintenance tools.
- Register campers, collect, sort and count revenue; prepare bank transmittals and deposits.
- Perform daily garbage collection and litter control.
- Clean restrooms and stock cleaning supplies.
- Clean rental properties and perform general housekeeping duties including washing windows, scrubbing floors, mopping, and sweeping.
- Drive light truck or other Parks vehicle to transport supplies and equipment within the park area, Haul refuse and garbage.
LENGTH OF POSITION:
Typical seasonal positions are hired to work approximately (4) months full-time work and (2) months part-time work. A few positions will be hired to work (6) months full-time.
Actual schedules will vary depending on assignment and department needs.

- Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.
- Background check must meet County criteria
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the time of hire
PREFERED:
- Prior parks experience
- Experience with hand and power tools, and equipment
- Ability to clean and repair tools and equipment
UNIFORM:
- All temporary parks help employees are required to wear a uniform and will receive two shirts and a baseball cap upon hire. Employees are responsible for ensuring the rest of their attire is appropriate for work at all times, including proper footwear, long pants, etc. Jackets or rain gear may be worn as needed but are the responsibility of the employee and must not have visible logos or branding.
