What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legislative Coordinator position at Whatcom County?
The County Council Office seeks to hire a Legislative Coordinator (Board of Equalization Clerk) to focus on support for the Board of Equalization (BOE), which hears property tax appeals to the Assessor´s property value determinations. This position will process property valuation petitions, schedule and staff BOE hearings, and process record decisions, in accordance with local policies, state codes, and Washington State Department of Revenue requirements. The Legislative Coordinator (BOE Clerk) may also provide generalized administrative support for the Council Office on special projects as assigned. The Legislative Coordinator will primarily work with property owners, BOE members, and BOE staff.

Salary Range:- Unrepresented- Range 4
Hiring rate depends on qualifications. This position receives annual pay increases to the next step in the associated salary range (apx. 3.8%) subject to satisfactory performance, in addition to any negotiated Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA).
Requires an Associate’s degree in a related field AND four years of progressively responsible related office experience, including composition of a variety of written materials. Experience must include working with the public and coordinating work for multiple professionals.

Requires a high school diploma or GED AND six years of progressively responsible related office experience, including composition of a variety of written materials. Experience must include working with the public and coordinating work for multiple professionals.
Requires knowledge of:
Website publishing technology.
The field of assignment sufficient to perform thoroughly and accurately the full scope of responsibility as illustrated by example in this job description.
Secretarial, clerical and office management principles, procedures, functions and practices; recordkeeping and telephone systems; basic mathematics, bookkeeping principles and practices; and English composition and grammar.
Safety precautions, practices and procedures applicable to the area of assignment.
Requires in-depth knowledge of:
Computer operation and a variety of office software including word processing, database, spreadsheet applications and website publishing.
- Must have a driving record that meets County standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout employment.
- May be required to become a Notary Public.
- Background check must meet County criteria.
- Must pass job-related tests
