What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Health Nurse Supervisor - Nurse-Family Partnership position at Whatcom County?
Whatcom County Health & Community Services Department is recruiting for the position of Public Health Nurse Supervisor. We are seeking a proven nurse leader to oversee the Nurse-Family Partnership program in the Community Health and Human Services Division of the Health & Community Services Department. This position supervises a staff of 4 nurses.
KEY DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Assists in planning, development of the budget, work schedules and staffing levels
- Plan and expend budget to ensure compliance with fidelity to the Nurse-Family Partnership model
- Plans and oversees details of activities including workloads, schedules and coordinating with others to ensure timely completion of work
- Ensures staff complete all required Nurse-Family Partnership education sessions
- Maintains small NFP case load as needed
- Implements cost effective measures and uses resources and technology to increase productivity
- Secures, monitors and assures compliance with grants and contracts and prepares program reports as needed.
- Monitors, investigates and analyzes program and client statistics, community needs and program initiatives and assists in developing recommendations.
- Provides direct service to clients when necessary
- Maintains knowledge of current research, legislation, state regulations and Centers for Disease Control recommendations related to areas of assignments
- Oversee and ensure timely and accurate data input and utilization of the reports available through Nurse-Family Partnership
- Read and interpret reports; share appropriately with team and partners
- Ensure implementation of quality improvement and strategies
- Provide training, reflective supervision and evaluation of assigned staff
- Research and apply for appropriate funding opportunities to support expansion of NFP program

Supervisor: Community Services Manager

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate must have excellent organizational and communication skills as well as advanced knowledge of current public health core functions, Public Health Accreditation Standards, social determinants of health, and health equity principles. Previous knowledge and experience working with NFP model. Proven experience leading groups, developing policy recommendations and implementing new programs or services are essential as well as experience supervising a team of staff This position will work pro-actively to achieve the goals of the Whatcom County Health & Community Services Department and must have the ability to communicate and work effectively through reflective supervision with employees as well as public and political stakeholders.
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing which included course work in public health AND 4 years of progressively responsible nursing experience INCLUDING 2 years of experience in a lead capacity supervising the work of others.
Requires a valid Washington State license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
Experience working in public health nursing and maternal-child health strongly preferred.
A Master's degree in nursing, public health or closely related field is desired and may be substituted for 1 year of experience, excluding the 2 years of lead experience.
