Residence Director
Job Overview
Reporting to the Dean of Residence Life, the Residence Director is a full time (10 month) position. The Residence Director has responsibility for supervision of and service to students within a large residence hall and for the administration of staff and facilities. The Residence Director manages an $8,000 budget and supervises two Graduate Resident Advisers, an Assistant Residence Director and leads a team of Resident Advisers. This position pays a stipend of $33,000-35,000 over a 10 month period. This position also provides on-campus housing year-round.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Cultivate a Residence Hall environment that fosters community through caring relationships, accountability, discipleship, servant attitudes, and educational programming.
- Supervise and train two Graduate Resident Advisers (GRAs), 1-2 undergraduate Assistant Residence Directors (ARD) and 11-12 undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs).
- Facilitate weekly residence hall staff meetings, weekly senior staff meetings with the GRAs and ARD, and weekly individual meetings with two GRAs, 1-2 ARDs and 3-4 RAs for further training, advising and support.
- Advise students and staff who have concerns, making referrals to other campus resources as appropriate.
- Meet weekly with the Dean of Residence Life and RDs, with the RD/GRA team, and individually with the Dean of Residence Life for supervision, information sharing, support, planning, and problem solving.
- Connect with and support students in emotional crises and direct them to appropriate campus resources through Student Wellness.
- Participate in the conduct process in partnership with the student development Deans and Directors to communicate and enforce College policies.
- Schedule concentrated relationship-building time one weeknight each week.
- Cover on duty call responsibilities during the weekday work hours, during your weekly night in and for one weekend roughly once a month as part of your staff team rotation.
- Oversee all administrative functions within the residence hall. This includes conduct, budgets, maintenance coordination, and safety and emergency operations.
- Lead one Residence Life subcommittee each year.
- Participate in the hiring and training of residence life staff teams throughout the year.

Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Student Development or related area preferred with relevant experience in Student Development, or in a related area
- Applicants with three or more years of Student Development or other human service experience, beyond the undergraduate degree, will be given first consideration
- Evidence of Christian character and commitment to upholding Wheaton’s Community Covenant
- Understand issues related to sexuality and racial identity development
- Clear communication skills
- Understanding the role of Residence Life in promoting whole person development in students
- Approachable and able to relate to students and staff
Physical Requirements
The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, handle or feel, and to stand, walk, reach, bend or lift up to 10 pounds.
