GENERAL PURPOSE
This position acts as the "Ambassador of First Impressions." This position is responsible for performing accurate and efficient monetary transactions, taking measures to safeguard all acquired revenue, interact with guests in a friendly, professional, and informed manner that promotes the zoo's message of conservation. This position is seasonal from March through November.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Minimum of eighteen (18) years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent. Retail, attraction, or customer service experience in a high volume environment preferred. Must be outgoing, dynamic, and enthusiastic with the public. Must have the ability to multi-task, have good verbal communication skills, and be friendly and personable. Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Actively greet and welcome guests to Cosley Zoo.
- Excite, engage, and entertain guests in a way that promotes a positive zoo experience.
- Monitor traffic flow, safety conditions, and housekeeping in assigned area.
- Provide guest control (including challenging situations).
- Answer all questions and insure that no guest is left with an unanswered concern.
- Accurately and efficiently process transactions using the point of sale system.
- Accurately collect visitor data.
- Monitor and verify Cosley Zoo memberships, group visits, guests with reciprocal memberships, program / rental / party participants, etc.
- Operate business machines including computer and copier.
- Demonstrate acquired knowledge of Cosley Zoo and Wheaton Park District facilities, parks, and programs.
- Maintain the highest level of safety in the work area through implementation of safety protocols and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to : continuously sit for long periods of time in a booth and grasp items with good hand / eye coordination; and occasionally move items such as boxes of flyers, etc. weighing up to 10 lbs.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Must be able to : continuously remain in a very small booth and will be exposed to all weather conditions including rain, cold, snow, heat, humidity, etc. including biting and stinging insects and bugs; and rarely exposed to animal hair / dander / feces.
HOURS
Three to four shifts / week totaling 12-16 hours / week, March 1 through November 26. At least one shift will be a weekend day.
SALARY
Looking to hire within the range of $16.00 - $17.00 DOE
