POSITION SUMMARY The Intake Technician is an integral part of the team concept in Wheeler’s health delivery system, which is devoted to the delivery of integrated primary care in an ambulatory setting with emphases on prevention and health maintenance. This position performs medical support tasks and helps patients by providing information, services, and assistance. The intake technician efficiently collects and records private health information of people with behavioral health, psychiatric disorders, and/or medical conditions. The intake tech distills the information unto the Triage Clinician who then assigns a diagnosis and co-develops with the medical provider a course of treatment.   Hourly rate: $22 Bilingual Stipend available for ability to speak fluently in both English and Spanish     EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS  Graduation from a medical assistant program and some behavioral health experience preferred or a Bachelor’s in social work, counseling, psychology or related field and willingness to learn medical assistant tasks/responsibilities. A person with certification in addiction counseling (CADC) or DARC certificate and 1 year relevant experience will be considered. Or an Associate’s degree and 3 years relevant experience.   A valid driver’s license and access to timely and reliable transportation are required.  Position may require immediate and flexible coverage at multiple locations.   Must have knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. Ability to interact with interns, and/or staff in a team environment, as well as ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards required. Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with EHRs required. Bi-lingual is preferred with the ability to speak fluently in both English and Spanish.   Acts as role model by emulating exceptional customer service, appropriate phone etiquette and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrates proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Exhibits strong verbal and written communication skills and analytical and problem-solving abilities. Reviews patient informed consent and rights & responsibilities with patients. Conducts/collects questionnaire data, e.g., PHQ 9, PRAPARE, DLA-20, OHIO, CAGE, ACE Performs phlebotomy and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis based on programmatic need. Performs medical support tasks under the supervision of APRN, RN.   Gives instructions to patients as instructed by MD, APRN.  Ensures all related reports, labs and information is filed is available in patients’ medical records prior to their appointment. Follows up and tracks referral statuses ensuring referrals have been sent and received in a timely fashion. Maintains flexibility pertaining to cross training throughout all health centers, clinical programs and service lines and coverage at other Health and Wellness sites as it meets the needs of the department. Observing patients’ behavior, listening to their concerns, and documenting their chief complaint, social, family, legal, health, educational histories, and other fields into the Electronic Health Record. Adept at conducting mental status examination (MSE) and documenting results into EHR. Conducting summary/warm hand offs with the Triage Clinician regarding the patient’s presentation, chief complaint, and condition. Collaborates with medical, Behavioral Health Consultant, Specialty BH and Psychiatry. Performs toxicology screens with patients and accurately reads results. Participates in regular supervision meetings with supervisor or designee to review ongoing expectations, goals and achievements, discuss existing and future projects, review and prepare for various accrediting. Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; trouble shooting breakdowns; maintain supplies; performing preventative maintenance; calling for repairs. Triages and processes messages from patients and front office staff to MD, APRN, PA. Maintains all logs and required checks (e.g., refrigerator temperatures, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change) Must be able to pass a respirator fit test at time of hire and on annual basis. Manages customer care calls/messages from patients, pharmacies, other external providers/community connections/partners and patient representatives and facilitates transfer of information to appropriate clinical parties as necessary, such as Behavioral Health Clinicians, RN, MD/APRN, etc.  Enhances practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
