POSITION SUMMARY The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Resident (APRN) functions as a member of the Psychiatry team and applies related skills acquired through their training to the treatment of Wheeler's patient population.  The selected candidates will receive continuous mentorship while providing patients with direct clinical care and engage in formal weekly educational didactics, grand rounds with CME accreditation, quality improvement projects, and receive certification and training in new and alternative modalities of treatment including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Esketamine Therapy. Wheeler residents will leave our program with enhanced clinical skills and tools to make a lasting impact on community health.     Salary: $75,000   EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS Registered Nursing degree and a Master of Science in Nursing with relevant work experience. Certified as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse as appropriate for the population served by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners or American Nurses Credentialing Center is required.   Credential(s) Required: Licensed Registered Nurse and licensed Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut.  Active DEA controlled substance registration and an active Connecticut controlled substance registration.    LOCATION Health centers located in New Britain, Bristol, Waterbury, Plainville and Hartford, CT.   SCHEDULE Full time, starting in Fall 2025 for a one-year residency placement.   EMPLOYEE BENEFITS Wheeler offers access to a comprehensive array of benefits, including: - For Good Health - Medical, Prescription, Dental and Vision insurance - Health Savings Account (HSA), with company contribution - Wellness Programs - Free annual flu shots - For a Secure Future - Company paid Life and AD&D insurance - 403(b) Plan, with company contributions - For Career Advancement - Education Reimbursement Program - Training and development opportunities - Reimbursement for licensure - CME approved monthly grand rounds offered at Wheeler - For Work Life Balance - Generous paid time off -15 vacation days per year -8 sick days per year -2 personal days per year -2 floating holidays per year -9 Paid company holidays - Employee Assistance Program (EAP)- Free and confidential counseling - Employee discounts on cell phone services   ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of board certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners and Physicians, the Resident: Conducts psychiatric evaluations and formulates accurate diagnoses in accordance with the Diagnostic Statistical Manual (DSM-5-TR), manages prescribed medication, performs mental status examinations, develops and presents clear clinical impressions and recommendations that are specific and attainable, providing therapeutic interventions appropriate to specific problems. Develops and documents clear clinical formulations in a timely manner. Demonstrates a basic knowledge of psychopathology and other behavioral health concerns and effective modalities of psychotherapeutic intervention. Triages clinical emergencies and implements program specific safety and consultation protocols. Utilizes best practices and evidenced based practice models where appropriate and adheres to model and program expectations. Demonstrates knowledge of internal and external levels of care, referral processes and resources. Makes clinically appropriate referrals for identified service needs in a timely manner. Communicates in a positive, effective manner with client, family, and all internal and external providers. Attends any required meetings, didactics and supervision. Meets direct service productivity goals as defined by program. Demonstrates knowledge of program/department/agency goals and target outcomes, and adheres to practice standards and to data collection and reporting protocols. Documents all client related information in compliance with agency policy. Attends and is prepared for scheduled supervision. Seeks additional supervision or consultation as needed and follows through with supervisory directives. Provides service in the office and/or community settings outside of the office (e.g., homes, schools, hospitals, institutions, other community locations) as defined by the program. Communicates in a professional, positive, and effective manner with all clients, families, and collaborating professionals.  Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
