What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wheeling Park Groundskeeper 3 position at Wheeling Park?
Provide exceptional care to the grounds to attract guests and add to the aesthetic value of the Wheeling Park Commission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Operate equipment for maintenance of roads and grounds care such as: blowers and vacuums, chainsaws, drill and auger, power trimmers and power-edgers, utility carts, tractors, lawnmowers, spreaders, tillers, snow blowers, log splitter, plows, push cart or wheelbarrow, trailers, and standard one ton dump truck.
- Able to use hand tools for maintenance of grounds such as: shovel, trowel, rake, cultivator, posthole digger, broom, axe, forks, pruners, loppers and shears.
- Plant, water, and maintain turf, flowers, hanging baskets, trees, and shrubs.
- Cuts lawns, trims and edges around walks, plant beds, steps, fences, and walls.
- Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth and remove damaged leaves, branches, or stems.
- Remove weeds, cultivate and mulch plant beds.
- Remove snow from walks, roads and driveways; spread chemicals on public passageways to prevent ice buildup.
- Keep grounds, drainage ditches, and culverts free of litter and debris (including dead animals).
- Where designated, collect garbage and debris from Park Commission facilities that do not have outside garbage service.
- Maintain clearance; make minor repairs, and paint fences and gates.
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs to equipment, facilities, benches, and trash receptacles.
- Inspect and maintain play apparatus.
- Perform minor repairs to roadways.
- Split, stack, and deliver firewood.
- Assist in set-ups for special events.
- Interact with the public with a cheerful and positive attitude, solve guest problems and complaints in a proper manner, and maintain harmonious working relationships with fellow employees.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
