JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of a Radiologist, performs radiographic and computed tomographic exams / procedures at appropriate technical level. Performs a variety of technical procedures that will require independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required, including specialized radiographic areas such as Special Procedures, Mammography Procedures, CT exams / procedures, MRI, etc.

Recognizes the purpose of employment is to prioritize the patient as number one, and to put forth the utmost quality as a Technologist.

PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS includes the following, other duties may be assigned :

  • Maintains a positive and professional atmosphere for patients and personnel. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients and personnel who may be under physical or emotional stress and gather and exchange patient information with nursing personnel and physicians.
  • Transfers and properly positions patients for examinations to obtain desired radiographic results according to physician specifications. Provides immobilization as required and protection in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Selects and operates equipment, selecting proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
  • Selects and loads proper film cassettes, using film markers correctly and consistently.
  • Processes films appropriately.
  • Assists physicians in performance of examinations by mixing and pouring contrast media, administering opaque media, assisting in sterile procedures, and other related duties as required. Loads contrast media, and saline appropriately into the CT contrast injector.
  • Obtains appropriate patient history prior to the start of the exam to ensure safety and abiding by ALARA.
  • Performs regular warm-up sequences on the CT scanner to prolong the life of the tube.
  • Uses computerized tomography equipment to capture diagnostic images of patients’ internal organs and tissues as required by the protocols set forth by the Radiology group.
  • Assists in performing first aid within their scope of knowledge.
  • Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Maintains orderliness and cleanliness, including provision for the contamination-free condition of rooms, equipment, and personnel.
  • Secures and returns supplies.
  • Reports equipment failure to supervisor and calls in a ticket to the appropriate vendor using proper forms and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Responsible for delegated areas of authority in the performance of routine or special procedures. In the absence of the manager or lead technologist, may be designated as acting supervisor.
  • May be responsible for specific areas of instruction in the Radiologic Technology student program and ancillary personnel.
  • Cooperates with all department personnel in a positive and professional manner. Maintains a positive and loyal attitude towards employer.
  • Serves on specific committees dealing with the use of radiation as requested.
  • May be required to assist in the development of technical factors and film selection.
  • May assist in the use of a variety of equipment or procedures not routinely taught.
  • Performs a variety of related clerical tasks, as necessary.
  • Rotates within the X-Ray and CT departments, working various shifts as required.
  • Maintains professional appearance by adhering to Dress and Grooming Policy and Dress Code of Diagnostic Imaging Services.
  • Takes advantage of opportunities for continuing education as provided by the department or seminars available for the various specialties, cross-training in specialized areas.
  • Adheres to prescribed standards for Radiation Safety.
  • Handles equipment in a responsible, professional manner.
  • Maintains patient records.
  • Ensures patient safety, privacy and dignity to the greatest extent possible.
  • Compliant with Nationals Standards of Continuing Education to maintain professional competency and proficiency.
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation.

JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High school graduate

Graduated from a JCERT accredited school or program specific to Radiologic Technology

Training and Experience

Must be competent in all routine diagnostic procedures, including but not limited to :   Routine, Fluoroscopic, OR, Trauma, Portable radiographs or fluoroscopy; limited specials such as Myelograms, Venograms,  arthrograms, IVP’s, etc.  Routine Computed Tomographic exams, and Image Guided Procedures.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Minimum ARRT (R) with the understanding that (CT) is to be obtained withing 1 year of employment.
  • Licensed by Washington State.
  • BLS Required
