JOB SUMMARY
The Courier supports the mission of providing quality healthcare to the patients of Whidbey General Hospital and Clinics by transporting all materials, including but not limited to, hazardous materials, confidential correspondence, protected health information, healthcare supplies and all other items in a safe and timely manner.
PRINCIPLE FUNCTIONS include the following, other duties may be assigned:
- Ensure timely drop off and pickup of materials and correspondence according to established route that encompasses WhidbeyHealth Medical Center and Physician clinics throughout Whidbey Island.
- Safely and efficiently transports Laboratory samples, ensuring samples are kept at required temperature during transportation and are transported in accordance with Hazardous Material Training.
- Safely transport and deliver prescriptions from the pharmacy to residents’ homes per established routes and obtain signatures for verification of deliveries.
- Returning all undeliverable products to the pharmacy and communicate with the pharmacy any delivery concerns or issues.
- Safely and efficiently transports pharmacology products in accordance with Hazardous Material Training.
- Deliver all transported materials to designation within a specified route. This includes sorting mail and packages picked up on route and delivering to destination or sorting to appropriate mailbox in the centralized Mail Room located within the hospital.
- Conduct basic safety and readiness checks of assigned vehicle prior to departure of each shift, reports any problems or mechanical issues.
- Load and unload vehicle practicing safe techniques with lifting, pushing and pulling.
- Practice safe driving skills during transport; adhere to all driving regulations.
- Maintains complete and accurate logs and other departmental paperwork as necessary.
- Maintain positive, professional appearance as a representative of the organization.
- Maintain professional relationships with internal and external customers including employees, managers, departments, Physician clinics, and other contacts.
JOB KNOWLEDGE & QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Highest level of education completed, minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
Training and Experience
Previous related experience is strongly preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Current and valid Washington State Driver License required.
- Must provide a copy of Washington State driving record upon hire and may be subject to annual driving record checks based on facility insurance carrier requirements.
- Hazardous Material Training required to be completed within 90 days of hire.

- Must be able to demonstrate defensive driving skills in all weather conditions.
