JOB TITLE: Operational Excellence Technician
DEPARTMENT: Operations
REPORTS TO: Operations Excellence Manager
SUPERVISES: None
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for developing and implementing improvements and solutions to identified opportunities and issues in manufacturing. The Operational Excellence (OE) Technician will be the primary resource to support the physical completion of Kaizen Cards and will also be a resource for Continuous Improvement Workshops / Kaizen Events, and other Lean Manufacturing initiatives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Production

  • Continuous Improvement - Manufacturing: responsible for identifying and participating in projects that lead to improvements in manufacturing performance in terms of productivity, quality, on-time delivery, and innovation through the application of performance management, problem-solving, process methodology, and training toolsets. Duties may include:
    • Builds jigs, fixtures, etc.; modifies existing equipment and tools
    • Utilizes knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to assist in various continuous improvement projects which may include organizing work areas, initiating repairs, and painting
    • Helps TeamMates turn identified problems or constraints in their work area into implemented Kaizen Card actions that improve quality, cost, delivery, and motivation and morale
  • Troubleshooting: responsible for troubleshooting and problem-solving mechanical problems in equipment and processes. Duties may include:
    • Conducts root-cause analysis for problems / issues with equipment and follows up with structured problem-solving tools (PDCA)
    • Uses critical thinking to modify or customize equipment to meet business needs
    • Improves functionality of current equipment

 

  • Project / Program Management: responsible for completion of major Process Improvement projects annually by delivering professional quality products that fully meet agreed upon metrics. Projects will normally be focused on manufacturing, continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, etc. Assists with administration of various Lean Manufacturing initiatives. Duties may include:
    • Leads projects by identifying available resources and collaborating to define scope, deliverables, and S.M.A.R.T. goals, and then follows through to completion.
    • Introduces, implements, and trains on new Lean Manufacturing initiatives and adjusts processes to improve existing programs such as: 5S, Kaizen Standard Work, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical training preferred.
  • Two (2) to five (5) years machine maintenance experience.
  • Can perform shop arithmetic and read blueprints.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical and electrical knowledge, especially higher voltages and complex electrical circuits.
  • Must be skilled in reading electrical diagrams.
  • Must be skilled in hand and shop tools including lathe, mill, welding, and cutting tools.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in assessing problems associated with the equipment, be able to identify problems, and make the necessary repairs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Frequently pulling, pushing, lifting of up to 45 lbs.
  • Requires prolonged standing and sitting.
  • Exposure to dirt, grease, oil, plastic material, lubricants, etc.
  • Must wear steel-toed safety shoes and safety glasses where required.
