Whitewater River Guide (Trip Leader)

Position Title: Whitewater River Guide – Full Time Seasonal, May through October

Reports To: Lewiston Operations Manager

Position Overview: Will act as a guide on our Jet Boat tours of the Niagara River, participating in all responsibilities of the Operations Department. Responsible for the health and safety – and tour enjoyment! - of passengers.

Soaked & stoked! The River Tour Guide (Trip Leader) is the right-hand and sidekick to our jet boat Captains. They work in the heart of the action, guiding our 45-minute jet boat tours of the Niagara River and Devil’s Hole Rapids. For this position, you must love meeting new people and speaking in front of crowds (and don’t mind getting your hair wet). The ability to make a good boat joke is considered an asset. Current First Aid and CPR certifications are preferred but all training and certifications are provided in-house for successful candidates.

Responsibilities:

• Act as a guide on jet boat tours along the Niagara River, delivering an entertaining, engaging, and memorable experience for guests.
• Prioritize passenger safety while ensuring a fun and energetic atmosphere throughout the tour.
• Conduct pre-trip safety orientations for groups of over 100 guests, providing clear and engaging instructions to ensure passenger preparedness and confidence.
• Safely load and unload passengers onto vessels, providing physical assistance as required to ensure smooth and secure transitions.
• Assist the Captain with daily mechanical maintenance tasks, including bailing water from airtight holding containers and completing other assigned duties.
• Perform thorough daily cleaning of vessels, including scrubbing boats, seats, and windshields, to maintain cleanliness and functionality.
• Maintain the tidiness and cleanliness of docks, change rooms, parking lots, and buildings, including tasks such as power washing decking and garbage removal.
• Ensure all river gear and operational areas meet company standards for safety and presentation.
• Record pre-defined video clips during the tour using a GoPro Hero camera, capturing key moments to enhance guest memories and media offerings.
• Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures to protect guests, colleagues, and personal well-being.
• Administer first aid to passengers when necessary, acting swiftly and professionally in emergencies.
• Perform all responsibilities while working outdoors in varying weather conditions, maintaining a professional and enthusiastic demeanor.

Ideal Candidate would have or acquire:

• (2 years) Customer service or guest-facing experience
• Excellent oral communication – confident when speaking in person and in front of large groups of guests
• Punctuality and respect of time constraints and demands when serving large numbers of people
• Current First Aid and CPR Training
• Experience working in/around water and/or boats are considered assets
• Fluency in other languages is considered an asset

The tour company’s fleet of custom-built jet boats depart from locations on the Canadian and American sides of the Niagara River, including Queenston, ON and Lewiston, NY.
