Title: Lifeguard
Reports To: Lifeguard Manager
Job Summary:
The Lifeguard is responsible for overseeing the safety of patrons and operations of the Camp-Resort aquatic facility by preventing and responding to emergencies to ensure the facility meets all standards and requirements of state regulations as well as those of a Jellystone Parkä.
Essential Job Duties: (these duties include, but are not limited to):
1. Maintain consistent enforcement of pool rules and park policies to be pro-active in maintaining safe operations.
2. Maintains constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency
3. Inspect and maintain pool facility and equipment
4. Maintain a log for all appropriate activity reports
5. Supervise the care and maintenance of lifesaving equipment
6. Provide first responder emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
7. Present professional appearance and attitude at all times
8. Maintain a high standard of customer service.
9. Perform various additional maintenance duties as directed by the Lifeguard Manager, Maintenance Manager or General Manager to maintain a clean and safe facility.
10. Create and maintain the illusion that Yogi BearÔ and friends are “real” ensuring all guests have a positive and entertaining experience during their stay
11. Any other responsibilities as assigned by Lifeguard Manager
Marginal Job Functions:
Attend educational sessions as directed.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
- Sixteen years of age or older
- Current lifeguard certification through a certified provider or willing to obtain upon hire.
- Current certifications in First Aid/CPR and AED or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Strong swimming skills and ability to perform rescues if necessary
- Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
- Ability to speak loudly
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through both verbal and written venues
- Ability to attend work regularly and work under stressful conditions
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in making rescues and rendering aid or other emergency situations
- Specific training and /or experience in guest services
- Personable, enjoy working with children/people
- Possess excellent organization skills
- Ability to work evening, weekend & holiday hours are required
Physical Requirements:
This position is an extremely physically active position. Employee is regularly required to swim, sit, stand, walk and run. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, stoop, kneel, and crouch. Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds or more. Employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions (hot and humid, rainy, extreme temperatures, airborne particles)
Schedule:
- Pool Season: Memorial Day Weekend-Labor Day Weekend
- Weekends (mainly Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays)
- Weekdays (June-August)
- Evening hours- anywhere from 5:00-9:00pm
- Required to work holidays including Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July, Labor Day & our Apple Dumpling Festival Weekend
- Vacations/inability to work anytime during one or more of these Holidays can be a determination of employment at Whispering Hills Jellystone Parkä Camp-Resort
Pay:
- $13/hour
Pay increases, when given are based on factors such as above-average performance and earnings of the park and are not necessarily given based on length of service.
