Title: Recreation Team Member
Reports To: Recreation Director
Job Summary:
Jellystone Parkä strives to offer a balanced mix of activities for our guests and create a positive guest experience. Recreation Team Members are responsible for creating a fun and memorable experience during activities and special events within the park, as well as monitoring the Jumping Pillow and park amenities to ensure safety for all guests.
Essential Job Responsibilities and Duties: (these duties include, but are not limited to):
Recreation is the #1 reason guests visit Jellystone Parkä. We strive to offer the best activities and events for all those involved.
1. Provide a positive image of the Jellystone Parkä Culture--expected of you come to work each day in uniform, with a good attitude, and always with a smile
2. Accept responsibility of keeping the campground a safe and clean place to work and play by picking up litter and reporting any maintenance issues immediately to Recreation Director
3. Work together with other team members and step out to help others as needed
4. Decorate the various departments/areas in the park (Ranger Station, Recreation Center, Front Entrance, Café, Arcade, etc) fully in the spirit of the theme using all materials issued by the Recreation Director
5. Facilitate scheduled activities provided by the Recreation Director and properly clean up the recreation area after the activity is completed
a. All supplies for said activities should be set up 10 minutes before the activity is scheduled to begin and then put back in their designated area immediately upon completion of the activity
6. Create and maintain the illusion that Yogi Bearä and friends are “real” ensuring all guests have a positive and entertaining experience during their stay
a. Assist other recreation team members in getting dressed in the bear costumes and guiding him/her during activities/getting into the bear costume
b. Dress in a bear costume with the assistance of another Recreation Team Member
c. Ensure all character antics are within acceptable guidelines
d. Ensure characters appear ON TIME and interact with guests for a minimum of 20 mins at the time they are scheduled to be out
e. Keep character costumes maintained; including regular cleaning, brushing and appropriate storage.
7. Facilitate the Arts and Crafts program with crafts in line with the theme.
a. Follow instructions provided by the Recreation Director
b. All supplies for said crafts should be set out 10 minutes before the activity is scheduled to begin and clean up promptly upon completion
c. At the beginning of each craft, the recreation team member(s) are expected to provide a step-by-step explanation to participants on how to complete each craft
d. Assist and engage with participants during the time it takes for participants to complete the activity. Please do not stand around and talk with other recreation or campground staff.
8. Supervise the Jumping Pillow by providing a positive guest experience for our guests by ensuring amenity codes of conduct are followed
9. Assist the Recreation Director & Recreation Leads in preparations for activities and crafts
a. May include (but not limited to) gathering supplies already on hand into one general location, making craft kits to make handing out craft materials much easier, etc.
10. Notify Recreation Director when beginning to run low on general supplies kept on hand at all times. Do not wait until supplies are completely out to notify the Recreation Director
11. Maintain and update all informational and activity boards throughout the Resort on a regular (daily/weekly) basis to coincide with the theme using materials issued by the Recreation Director
12. Ensure recreation programs are as safe as possible and assist in any camper emergency within resort guidelines,
13. Inspect and assist in the maintenance of recreation facilities and equipment
14. Communicate and Coordinate with the Recreation Director on any issues that arise throughout the duration of employment
15. Provide ideas and feedback of recreation activities and special events to the Recreation Director
Other Job Functions:
- Work closely with management and fellow staff in developing a team that effectively represents the quality and professionalism of camp-resort property, through the use of professional communication including a proper phone and in-person greeting and professional written communication when needed
- Attend and participate in training programs as requested
- Assists other staff members in other departments as needed
- May be required to drive motorized vehicle on or off property for company business.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. A minimum of one-year experience working with children preferred.
- Minimum of 16 years of age required for monitoring the Jump Pillow
- Specific training and /or experience in recreation programming
- Current certifications in First Aid/CPR and AED or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Personable, outgoing, enjoy working with children/people
- Possess excellent organization and project management skills, leadership skills as well as the ability to manage and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry our detailed but uninvolved oral or written instructions
- Possess exceptional guest relations skills
- Ability to work in poor conditions
Physical Requirements:
This position is an extremely physically active position. Employee is regularly required to stand, walk and run. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, hop, skip and jump. Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds. This position also includes assisting in promoting the image of the characters and to dress in costumes, which are confining spaces and can be extremely hot. Employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions (hot and humid, rainy, extreme temperatures, airborne particles
Schedule:
- Season: April 15, 2024-October 31, 2024
- Weekends (mainly Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays)
- Some weekdays (June-August)
- Hours per week are less in the Spring/Fall compared to the summer (June - August)
- Late evening hours- anywhere from 5:00-10:00pm
- Required to work holidays including Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July and Labor Day and our Apple Dumpling Festival (Vacations/inability to work anytime during one or more of these Holidays can be a determination of employment at Whispering Hills Jellystone Parkä Camp-Resort)
Pay:
- Start at $12/hour
Pay increases, when given are based on factors such as above-average performance and earnings of the park and are not necessarily given based on length of service.
