What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bookseller position at White Birch Books?
White Birch Books is currently seeking a year-round part-time bookseller to join our team. 2-4 shifts a week, 9:30 am-5 pm. Weekends are required.
The ideal candidate for this position will combine excellent customer service skills with a knowledge and love of books, and the ability to communicate that enthusiasm to our customers. Comfort and experience with computers, software, and the internet is an absolute must! When not recommending books or helping customers at the register, you might be: alphabetizing books, calling customers about their special orders, creating unique and attractive displays, dusting, vacuuming, moving bookcases, or setting up chairs for special events, as well as helping unload heavy boxes.
The ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks is a key to success in this position. Every day is a little different which makes things fun and exciting. We are looking for at least two full days per week and some weekend flexibility. We could accommodate more hours for the right candidate. We schedule two weeks at a time and make every effort to have regular, reliable scheduling. As a booklover, you get access to books, audiobooks, and a healthy store discount!
Skills and Qualifications
- 2 years bookstore or other retail/customer service experience strongly preferred
- Welcoming of all and enjoys working with people—both team members and customers
- Comfortable learning and working with a variety of software, including point of sale/inventory control system, ecommerce and shipping programs, MS Office/Google Suite
- Strong knowledge of and passion for books
- Able to communicate clearly and efficiently in person, over the phone, and in writing
- Excellent problem solver
- Flexibility and willingness to work in a fast-paced retail environment
