Job Summary
The hands-on Controller will lead the company’s financial operations, ensuring accurate reporting, compliance, and cost efficiency. This role is responsible for budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and internal controls to support strategic growth. A key focus will be on cost accounting, inventory management, and profitability analysis within a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate has experience in the supplement, food, or pharmaceutical industries and will collaborate across departments to optimize costs, improve margins, and ensure compliance with GAAP, FDA, GMP, and other industry regulations. Additionally, this role will oversee cash flow management, financial audits, and ERP system optimization to enhance operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to management and stakeholders.
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
- Develop and maintain cost accounting systems to track product profitability and cost variances.
- Implement and monitor standard costing methods for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
- Analyze cost variances and provide insights to optimize manufacturing costs.
- Oversee inventory valuation using FIFO, LIFO, or weighted average cost methods.
- Collaborate with procurement and operations to manage inventory accuracy and minimize waste.
- Establish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax regulations, FDA, GMP, NSF, UL GMP, Organic, and other regulatory standards.
- Support external audits, tax filings, and regulatory financial reporting.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital, and credit management to optimize liquidity.
- Manage relationships with banks, lenders, and financial institutions to ensure proper financing.
- Develop and oversee AP/AR policies and credit control procedures.
- Provide financial insights to guide business decisions, investments, and cost-saving initiatives.
- Collaborate with supply chain, production, and quality teams to enhance efficiency.
- Assist in evaluating capital expenditures and investment opportunities.
- Implement and optimize ERP and financial software for better data management.
- Ensure accurate integration of production, procurement, and inventory data into financial systems.
- Support system upgrades and automation to enhance financial reporting and cost tracking.
Qualifications
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
- 7 years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Expertise in cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial forecasting.
- Experience with regulatory compliance in FDA, GMP, and other industry standards (preferred).
- Proficiency in ERP/accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP) and Excel.
Language
- Proficiency in English is required.
- Bilingual skills (e.g., English and Spanish) are a plus.
