Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)
Facility Location: Catonsville MD
Reports to: Director of Nursing (DON)
Summary: The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is a Registered Nurse (RN) who assists the Director of Nursing (DON) in the overall planning, direction, coordination, and evaluation of nursing services within our skilled nursing facility.
The ADON shares responsibility for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care under federal and state regulations, established policies and procedures, and budgetary guidelines.
This position requires strong leadership, clinical expertise, and a commitment to fostering a positive and supportive work environment.
The ADON will often act in the DON's capacity in their absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Leadership & Management:
Assist the DON in developing and implementing the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures for the nursing department.
* Supervise, evaluate, and mentor nursing staff, including RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other nursing personnel, as delegated by the DON.
* Assist the DON in creating and maintaining staffing schedules that meet resident care needs and regulatory requirements.
* Assist with managing the nursing budget and ensuring cost-effective resource utilization.
* Participate in the recruitment, hiring, and orientation of nursing staff, as directed by the DON.
* Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing education and training, as directed by the DON.
* Foster a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and professional growth.
* Address and resolve staff concerns and grievances in collaboration with the DON.
* Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations related to nursing care.
* Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
* Collaborate with other departments to ensure coordinated and integrated care.
* Act as the DON in their absence.
Resident Care:
* Assist the DON in overseeing the development and implementation of individualized care plans for each resident.
* Monitor the quality of nursing care provided and ensure adherence to established standards of practice.
* Ensure accurate and timely documentation of resident care.
* Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to coordinate resident care.
* Address resident and family concerns and complaints.
* Advocate for resident rights and ensure their dignity and respect are maintained. *
Clinical Expertise:
Maintain current knowledge of nursing best practices and regulations.
* Provide direct patient care as needed.
* Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff.
* Participate in the assessment and management of resident emergencies.
Other Duties:
* Participate in facility committees and meetings.
* Represent the nursing department at interdisciplinary meetings, as needed.
* Maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the DON or Administrator/Executive Director.
Qualifications:
* Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
* Minimum of 2 years of experience in nursing, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or management role in a skilled nursing facility.
* Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to skilled nursing care.
* Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to manage and motivate staff.
Excellent clinical skills and judgment.
* Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
* Computer proficiency.
