What are the responsibilities and job description for the Superior Court Reporter position at White County Government?

Incumbent serves as Court Reporter for White County Superior Court, responsible for assisting presiding Judge, and recording, reporting and preparing records of proceedings.
DUTIES:
Attends Court hearing as required by Judge, including preserving evidence given in all causes and noting all rulings of the Judge.
Facilitates and expedites the administration of justice as authorized by the Judge.
Assists Bailiff and Court Administrator in execution of their duties and responsibilities.
Ensures the accurate recording of all Court proceedings as directed by Judge, including operating recording equipment, and taking notes.
Prepares transcripts of Court proceedings according to state format requirements and/or appellate court deadlines.
Performs various clerical duties, including, but not limited to, typing, copying and distributing documents and correspondence, and performing data entry. Performs related duties as assigned.
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
High school diploma or HSE.
Ability to meet all employer and department hiring requirements, including passage of a drug test.
Thorough knowledge of standard practices and procedures of the Court, legal terminology, and standard legal documents, with ability to properly record proceedings, and prepare written orders.
Working knowledge of standard office procedures and various computer software applications used by the Courts, with ability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations.
Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling and punctuation, and ability to accurately transcribe voice recordings and prepare legal documents as required.
Knowledge of basic filing systems and ability to maintain accurate and complete Court files and records.
Ability to take Court notes, type with speed and accuracy, and operate standard office equipment, including computer, typewriter, fax machine, copier, and telephone.
Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, Judges, attorneys, Department of Child Services, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.
Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasional encounters with irate or difficult individuals.
Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of department information and records according to state requirements.
Shall comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out oral or written instructions and present findings in written or oral form.
Ability to compare or observe similarities and differences in data, people, and/or things.

Ability to occasionally work extended and/or evening hours, and occasionally travel out of town, but not overnight.
II. RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs standard duties according to the established practices of the Department with work priorities determined by service needs of the public. Assignments are guided by broad policies and/or general objectives. Decisions are always determined by specific instructions or existing, well-established policies and procedures. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through supervisory review and/or notification from other departments, agencies, or the public. Undetected errors could result in work delays in other departments and/or loss of money or inconvenience to other agencies or the public.
III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent maintains frequent contact with co-workers, other County departments, Judges, attorneys, Department of Child Services, and the public for purposes of exchanging information and explaining/interpreting policies and procedures.
Incumbent reports directly to presiding Judge.
IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment and/or courtroom, involving sitting/walking at will, sitting for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing less than 25 pounds, bending, close/far vision, keyboarding, handling/grasping objects, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent may be exposed to irate/difficult persons.
Incumbent occasionally works extended or evening hours, and travel out of town, but not overnight.
