Job Summary:
This role involves operating a school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned routes and to and from designated locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the school bus daily, adhering to schedules and anticipating potential problems such as traffic, weather, and road conditions to ensure student safety and minimize delays.
- Perform pre-and post-trip inspections to ensure the bus is safe for operation and notify the supervisor of needed repairs.
- Instruct students on safe entry, exit, and passenger rules, supervise students boarding and leaving the bus, and maintain discipline using effective behavior management control.
- Observe traffic laws and safety regulations, install snow chains in inclement weather, and maintain safety certification.
Requirements:
- A valid Tennessee commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.
- Age 25 or older (23 years old if a veteran, national guard member, or reserves, or a licensed teacher employed by the local education agency).
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exams.
- Completion of required bus driver safety training and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Effective communication skills and ability to use maps and GPS to navigate routes.
Working Conditions:
The job involves prolonged sitting, frequent standing, and exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes. The work schedule may include irregular hours, and occasional prolonged work periods.
