What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Garden Advisor position at White Flower Farm?
White Flower Farm in Morris Connecticut is recruiting a Garden Advisor for our Retail Garden Store. The Garden Advisor will work from early April through late summer/early Fall. The tentative work schedule is Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday (up to 4 days a week) from 9:00am to 5:30pm.
Position Summary:
The Garden Advisor role is to dispense valuable plant information to the WFF customer while assisting them in choosing plants or finding solutions to their gardening questions. Often being the first and most important contact with the customer, the Garden Advisor's job is to put customers at ease, thoughtfully and correctly answer gardening questions, assist in designing garden spaces and making sure the customer has the tools necessary to be successful in the garden. The Garden Advisor is a valuable link in the team effort to make retail sales and contribute to customer satisfaction and retention.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Greet each customer entering the retail selling area
- Being knowledgeable with products included in the WFF catalogue and Store existing inventory
- Mingle within the department to answer questions and provide guidance
- Assist in plant selections and garden design concerns
- Close sales
- Giving directions and providing historical or horticultural insight to points on the property
- Being positive and a team player
- Contribute to general nursery duties including but not limited to: watering of plants, weeding and cutting back of plants, pricing plants and installing plant signs, unloading plants from trailers and placing in retail sales frames, assist in creating plant merchandising displays
Position Requirements:
- Demonstrated horticultural knowledge, education or work experience
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to Maintain a professional appearance at all times
- Ability to perform simple mathematical calculations
- Ability to engage the retail public in a positive and friendly manner
- Ability to adhere to the staffing schedule and needs of the department
- Ability to work and contribute to a team effort while being a self starter with a positive attitude
- Ability to initiate conflict resolution or customer dissatisfaction prior to escalating to manager
- Desire to learn new horticultural information is a plus
- A good eye for design and problem solving in the home garden environment is helpful
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 40lbs
- Ability to navigate building inventory and displays
- Ability to bend, reach, push and be mobile
Working Conditions:
- Outside in potentially heat, cool and/or rain
- Inside gift store setting less frequently
