Job Overview
The White Horse Tavern, “America’s Oldest Tavern” is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Sommelier to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of wines and be able to provide exceptional service to enhance our guests' dining experiences. As a Sommelier, you will be responsible for curating wine selections that complement our menu offerings, educating staff and patrons about wine pairings, and ensuring that the wine service is executed flawlessly.
Responsibilities
- Assisting the General Manager/ Wine Director in managing the wine list, ensuring it aligns with the restaurant's menu and theme.
- Conduct tastings and training sessions for staff to enhance their knowledge of wines.
- Provide personalized wine recommendations to guests based on their preferences and meal choices.
- Oversee the proper storage and handling of wines to maintain quality.
- Manage inventory levels of wine and assist with ordering as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized wine service area, ensuring all equipment is in good working order.
- Handle cash transactions accurately using POS systems, including Toast POS.
- Providing support to the staff during service. Having a strong floor presence, touching tables etc.
Experience
- 3 years’ experience in a fine dining restaurant is required.
- Excellent customer service skills with a focus on providing an exceptional dining experience.
- Familiarity with cash handling procedures and point-of-sale systems (Aloha POS experience is a plus).
- A passion for wine, including certifications or formal education pertaining to sommelier training is advantageous but not required.
Compensation
· $40,000 Annually, plus 3% of Wine, Beer & Liquor Sales. Partial Health, Dental & Vision Insurance and Cell Phone Reimbursement, 2 Weeks PTO accrues within first year of service.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
Expected hours: 45 – 50 per week
