Reporting to the President, the Controller is responsible for maximizing the return on financial assets by establishing financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems. The position ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting functions, overseeing cost and general accounting, accounts receivable and payable. This position also oversees operations quality control, payroll and human resources functions. This Controller works closely with the fractional Chief Financial Officer and has a dotted reporting line to the Vice President.

Essential Functions and Duties

  • Oversees all financial and accounting operations and directs corporate financial planning and structure.
  • Develops, implements, maintains, and ensures compliance with financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control and petty cash.
  • Provides status of company’s financial conditions by collecting, interpreting and reporting key financial data.
  • Prepares short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management and external parties.
  • Develops and maintains timely and accurate financial statements and reports that are appropriate for users and in accordance with GAAP.
  • Reviews monthly results and implements monthly variance reporting.
  • Negotiates with bank for lines of credit or other financial services as required and appropriate.
  • Oversees management of all leases, contract, and other financial commitments.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislations, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports. Advises management of actions and potential risks.
  • Oversees audit and tax functions, coordinates activities with outside audit firms, and reviews company’s performance.
  • Hires, trains, develops, and appraises accounting staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary on a timely manner and in accordance with company policy.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure that operations quality control, personnel and financial information are in compliance with, secure and stored in accordance with current regulations.
  • Performs other related duties and projects as assigned.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field required.
  • Manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred.
  • 10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience including at least 5 years in leadership capacity.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of GAAP.
  • 5 years of enterprise accounting software experience required. NetSuite experience a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (complex calculations, formula, table). Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word or Google Workspace.
  • Familiarity with human resources principles and practices preferred.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to think strategically required.
  • Technical aptitude. Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Exemplary time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, adapt through changes, respond quickly to shifting reality, and adjust initiatives and priorities accordingly.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to mentor, motivate and lead a team.
  • Strong professional and personal judgment, critical in making sound decisions in complex situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.

Physical Demands

Works primarily in office setting, provided with workspace such as an office or a cubicle. Sits in assigned workspace for over 90% of workday. May be required to lift 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lift and carry small items or tools. Walking and/or standing are minimally required. Requires prolonged sitting and heavy computer usage.
