Full time Activities Assistant Monday - Friday 8am to 430pm
DEPARTMENT: Activity
SUPERVISOR: Activity Director
WORK AREA: Entire Facility
PURPOSE:
The Activity Assistant shall assist The Activity Director in the responsibilities for developing and maintaining a program of activities designed to promote the physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of each resident.
WORKING HOURS: 75 to 80 hours bi-weekly. The schedule will vary to provide evening, weekend and holiday coverage as needed.
THIS PERSON REPORTS TO: Activity Director
HIPAA MINUMUM NECESSARY:
Responsible to adhere to HIPAA MINUMUM NECESSARY guidelines and safeguard protected health information.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Activity Assistant shall be responsible for assisting the Activity Director in the overall operation of the Activity Department according to department policies and procedures.
DUTIES:
1. Assess residents as assigned within 14 days of admission and prior to the initial Plan of Care meeting to determine background and programming needs.
2. Attend, and contribute to, resident Plan of Care conferences and other staff meetings as scheduled by the Activity Director.
3. Assist the director as requested to design, post and maintain attractive, timely bulletin boards and calendars of scheduled activities.
4. Assist with morning and pre-activity announcements as assigned.
5. Assist in offering 1:1 activities regularly to those who are unable or unwilling to participate in scheduled activities.
6. Conduct group activities as assigned by the director. Assist residents to and from activities.
7. Assist in providing opportunities for residents to participate in activities in the surrounding community.
8. Keep accurate attendance and participation records of each activity responsible for, and evaluate the program for effectiveness and degree of resident involvement regularly.
9. Document accurately, and in a timely manner, progress made by residents assigned, keeping all documentation current.
10. Assist in the maintenance of the work area, equipment and supplies, including inventorying materials.
11. Assist with the Residents Council as requested.
12. Promote good public relations within and outside the facility.
13. Deliver and assist residents with personal mail on request.
14. Participate in on-going education and in-service training for the department and general staff.
15. Network with other Activity personnel through active participation in professional organizations, read journals and publications and keep up with new developments, regulations and program ideas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have an educational background sufficient to carry out a quality program as designated by the Activity Director. Must be of good moral character and in good mental and physical condition. Must have tact, patience, empathy, understanding and a willingness to work with residents regardless of their current level of functioning. Must demonstrate the ability to follow instructions, have good oral and written communication skills, and show sound judgment and creative abilities. Must have an understanding of the physiological changes and resulting needs of the aging population.
