Position Summary

 

Under the direction of the Director of Nursing for Maternal Child Health (MCH), the Clinical Coordinator for MCH provides support and clinical leadership to ensure safe care through coordination and collaboration with department staff and leaders.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:

 

  1. Adheres to the WPH Performance Standards and Behaviors policy.
  2. Responsible for patient throughput for all Maternal Child Health units (L&D, NICU and Mother-Baby).
  3. Responsible for patient flow and efficiency metrics and proactively supports throughput metrics and assures the delivery of quality department/clinical services in accordance with established hospital and regulatory/accreditation agency standards on the off shift.
  4. Works independently and is able to critically think to deal with a multitude of scenarios.
  5. Demonstrates excellent customer service skills and collaborates with all departments including physicians. Uses a team approach in all interactions and upholds and exemplifies the hospital behavioral standards.
  6. Maintains knowledge related to the operations of the division.
  7. Supports throughput metrics and current hospital goal.
  8. Supervises all services (patient related and others) to provide safe, efficient quality care and collaborates with MCH leadership to identify and resolve clinical practice and personal issues occurring on off shifts.
  9. Assists the staff to better understand the rationale behind Hospital/Nursing policies and procedures
  10. Provides clinical/technical support to staff.
  11. Assures appropriate staffing levels on assigned shift and subsequent shift in collaboration with Nurse Manager/Director of Nursing and schedules staff based on budgeted staffing plan and department needs.
  12. Assures compliance with state regulations and accreditation standards.
  13. Attends and participates in educational programs or activities to maintain current level of knowledge or expertise to remain relevant in practice.
  14. Participates in shared governance councils/taskforces as required to support the Magnet Culture.
  15. Adheres to safety standards for employees and patients.
  16. Submits all other work reports as required/requested by the Nurse Manager/Division Administrator.
  17. Maintains prompt, ongoing and effective communication with charge nurses/managers regarding unit admission, transfers or discharge issues.
  18. Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

 

    • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current New York registration.
    • BSN required
    • Knowledge of current nursing, medical and health trends and practices in rendering of patient care.
    • CPR/ACLS/NRP certification is required.
    • Minimum three years recent clinical nursing experience in OB.

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment

    • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc.
    • Must be physically able to transport 50 pounds and patients of all weights with a minimum of one assist or assistive device more than 80% of the time.
    • Must be able to perform difficult arm-hand steadiness and hand-eye coordination skills; walk and stand for prolonged periods more than 90% of the time.
    • Must be able to meet all regulatory physical and mental requirements 100% of the time.
    • Demonstrates ability to follow written and oral instructions required for the position.
    • Demonstrates ability to analyze multidimensional problems into component parts and sort out tasks in priority order to solve the problem.
    • Must be able to detect objects closely and far away and hears normal sounds with some background noises: communicates effectively (verbally, written) in English.

Salary Range: $121,042 - $158,365 (Based on full-time equivalent)
