Title : Pharmacy Technician I – Safety Sensitive
Department : Pharmacy
Reporting Relationships : Pharmacy Manager / Director
Job Summary : Prepare and assemble medications for distribution, subject to verification by a pharmacist. Works under direct supervision of staff pharmacists, according to standard procedures. Assists with inventory control, effectively communicates with other departments, interacts with staff, and maintains appropriate records.
Job Duties :
- Perform in accordance with established policies and procedures all packaging and other duties related to the preparation of medication for distribution to hospitalized patients, subject to pharmacist check.
- Pick” or otherwise assemble doses of medication for distribution to inpatients, subject to pharmacist check, using computer-generated fill lists.
- Restock supplies in IV room, organize workflow, maintain files; deliver completed IV admixtures to nursing units.
- Restock, process charges, and assure current dating of all drug supplies contained in crash cart drug trays and emergency drug boxes.
- Maintain current patient profiles, including functions involving credits and charges in the electronic medical record.
- Communicate with nursing and other personnel regarding distribution of medication; answer phone, refer calls, take messages, etc.
- Maintains pharmacy inventory by ensuring current inventory levels are accurate, anticipating needed medications and supplies, and removing outdated drugs. May place daily medication order from wholesaler as necessary.
- Keeps current with changes from Information Systems as they affect pharmacy.
- Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Physical Demands : Job responsibilities require a considerable amount of physical work. The individual will be required to assist with lifting or pushing up to 50 pounds. The individual must be able to bend over to perform certain duties, e.g., picking up boxes, filling machines, refilling supplies. The individual must also be able to maneuver throughout the halls, stairways, in response to hospital emergencies. Interpretation of environmental input requires visual and auditory skills. A significant amount of writing and computer entry is required.
