- This schedule is 3 / 12 hour shifts a week, with one day office responsibilities : two days floor duties.
Job Summary
The ICU Nursing Supervisor has authority and is accountable for decision making relative to the nursing care of the patients on designated patient care unit on designated shift. Functions independently within a broad scope of established hospital and departmental policies and goals in rendering physical and supportive care and health teaching to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Safely manages the environment of care while providing services. Interacts appropriately with staff, physicians, and other departments in collaborative relationships to meet the needs of patient / families. Supervises and delegates appropriately to other licensed and non-licensed staff members in providing care to patients / families. Assists the Unit Manager in the overall management of nursing personnel, patient care unit, and the educational environment of the patient care unit.
Essential Functions
Utilizes effective communication in interpersonal relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team through verbal, non-verbal, and written methods daily. Discuss illnesses and treatments with patients and family members. Advocate for patients' and families' needs or provide emotional support for patients and their families.Documents data related to patients' care including assessment results, interventions, medications, patient responses, or treatment changes in EMR. Document patients' medical histories, med reconciliation and assessment findings on admissions and complete all admission documentation in EMR.Manage patients' pain relief and sedation by providing pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, monitoring patients' responses, and changing care plans accordingly.Administer blood and blood product transfusions or intravenous infusions, monitoring patients for adverse reactions.Competent to transport ICU / Ventilatory patients to radiology and other areas. Competent to recover patients from OR.Set up, operate, or monitor invasive equipment and devices such as smart pumps, epidural pumps, pacemakers, warming and cooling machines, intra-aortic balloon pump, SCD's, mechanical ventilator.Respond and participate in RRT calls and team lead Code Blues. Able to perform emergency medical procedures, such as basic cardiac life support (BLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and other condition stabilizing interventions.Uses critical thinking skills in diagnosing clinical problems and in defining interventions. Able to prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs.Administer medications intravenously, by injection, orally, through gastric tubes, or by other methods. Less than 3 errors for the year.Collaborate with other health care professionals and service providers to ensure optimal patient care Provide high quality care to all patients. Coordinates care with interdisciplinary teamDemonstrates knowledge regarding tissue and organ donation protocols and advanced directives.Competent to titrate drips including but not limited to sedatives, vaso-active medications, insulin drips, paralytics, anti-arrthymics medications.Provide preventative skin care and prevention of VAP, DVT, Falls, Infections, etc. Enters ESRM for wounds POA.No fall out with Core measures.Completes daily dashboard sheets for requirements of ICU care per protocols.Competent to assist physician at bedside with procedures.Competent to pull femoral arterial, venous sheaths, chest tubes, swan ganz, arterial lines, central venous catheters according to protocol.Demonstrates leadership abilities and assumes leadership in the Registered Nurse role through various designated duties daily.Initiates, supports, and facilitates the change process within the professional milieu in concert with institutional goals and objectives on an ongoing basis.Performs weekly audits for advance directives, pain, chart audits and other assignments from director.Executes assigned PI monitoring in a timely manner.Interviews employee applicants and completes necessary paperwork. Supervises unit orientation for new employees ensuring that competencies are demonstrated and documented.Supervises the unit to include adjusting staffing on a shift-to shift basis; counseling / coaching employees and takes appropriate disciplinary actions for infractions to policy; providing education to staff and assists with cohesion of the unit.Demonstrates flexibility in schedule and performs additional duties as requested by Director.Behavioral Standards

Critical Care experience of at least 3 years.Education
Graduate of a professional nursing school program.Licensure / Certifications
Current Professional Nurse License issued and / or recognized by Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas.BLS & ACLS from AHA or ARC
