We are looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join our team and provide support to our Veterinarians. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care and be knowledgeable in animal anatomy and physiology. Responsibilities include providing medical care to animals, assisting with surgical procedures, and maintaining accurate medical records. The successful candidate will also be responsible for providing customer service, answering questions, and educating clients on proper pet care.

Age, Education, Personal Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 Years Old
  • High School Diploma
  • Working as a Team
  • Well-Spoken
  • Excellent Client Communication Skills
  • Ability to stay calm and efficient during a medical crisis

Experience Requirements

  • 1 Year Veterinary Assistant Experience

Work Schedule

  • 10 hour per day work schedule: Monday-Thursday
  • 6 Hour Fridays (Our Office closes at 1pm on Fridays)
  • Rotating Saturday and Sunday Treatment Scheduling

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the doctor and technicians to improve our quality of care and aid the doctor in achieving greater efficiency.
  • Ensure the overall hospital is clean, sanitized and stocked properly and does so without hesitation.
  • Ensure a comfortable and sanitary environment including rooms, and surgery suites, for our clients and patients.
  • Observe patients throughout the day for signs of illness, parasites, and disease.
  • Monitor patients for blood, urine, feces, and vomit in the cage, and clean patients and cages as needed; save specimens to be examined by a technician or veterinarian whenever necessary.
  • Properly and safely restrain patients, reliably and with compassion, to prepare them for procedures performed by technicians or doctors.
  • Ensure that supplies are available and adequately stocked in each exam room and treatment area.
  • Properly set up and clean any instruments needed by the doctor during patient exams.
  • Accurately dispense medication prescribed by the doctor; identify and record microchip numbers, tattoos, and other markings in patients' records.
  • Can perform physical assessments, record observations legibly in files or computer.
  • Knows all common vaccines and vaccination protocols.
  • Able to explain necessary follow-up and homecare instructions and vaccination protocols.
  • Assist Veterinary Technicians in preparing patients for surgery, radiology, and ultrasonography, and any other task needed.
  • Clean and maintain surgical instruments, thoroughly clean surgery area per hospital schedule.
  • Collect urine and fecal samples for diagnostics and laboratory processing.
  • Take physical safety precautions for exposure to drugs, anesthesia, and radiation.
  • Physical activities include bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, moving from room to room, and sitting; may be required to walk or stand for long periods of time; will use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel; will reach with hands and arms.
  • May be exposed to unpleasant odors, noises, and animal feces. May be exposed to bites, scratches, and contagious diseases.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.00 - $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 – 36 per week
