$22.49 per hour
General Position Summary:
Custodial staff will keep the district’s school buildings in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program. Primary responsibility is to ensure students and staff have a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play, work and develop. It is important for a custodian to be careful and thorough in working, cleaning and tidying the premises. A keen eye for detail and diligence are also imperative in custodial maintenance.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
- Performs general and routine custodial duties
- Cleans classrooms thoroughly on a regular basis
- Ensure spaces are prepared for the next day by taking out trash, tiding furniture and dusting surfaces
- Sanitize desktops, countertops and contact points
- Sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpets
- Wipe mirrors and windows
- Washing and sanitizing toilets, sinks and restocking disposables
- Cleans building entrance, lobbies, common and corridor areas on a regular basis
- Operates and maintains cleaning, polishing equipment
- Performs minor repair and maintenance functions i.e. snow removal, replacing light bulbs and air filters
- Performs other duties as may be assigned by the building administrator and direct supervisor
- Assist in moving equipment i.e. moving chairs, desks, lunch tables
- Requests and maintains necessary inventory of supplies
- Cleans and maintains custodial storage areas and equipment
- Maintain the fire extinguisher areas
- Secures building at the end of the work shift by locking doors, windows and setting the alarm
- Required to wear personal protection equipment i.e. gloves, eye protection and masks when necessary
- Job appropriate attire
- Displays a positive attitude toward the district’s energy conservation/recycling program
- Attend meetings with custodial staff when required to do so
- Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and other hazardous components
- Establish professional working relationship with the staff
- Be aware of dangerous indicators and report to the building administrator; i.e. drug use, graffiti, unusual behavior, and weapons.
- Other duties as assigned.
Specific Job Skills
- Must have good communication and public relation skills
- Effective use of discretion and independent judgment on a daily basis
- Operate office machines and personal computer
- Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentage applying basic math
- Use Microsoft Office software
- Good interpersonal, communication, leadership skills are essential
- Teamwork and professional conduct
- Ability to read, write and understand English is required
