White Sands, a HumanGood life plan community (CCRC) in beautiful La Jolla, CA, is seeking a part-time Spiritual Care Director (20 hours per week) to join our team. As the largest nonprofit owner/operator of senior living communities in California and one of the largest in the country, we are more than just a place to work. ** Part Time, 20 hours/week ** $32.00-$38.00/hr.
A day in the life may include:
- Provide Spiritual support, guidance and counseling to residents and families in keeping with the resident and families beliefs and spiritual preferences.
- Provides worship services, including celebration of sacraments by conducting services directly or in collaborates with an appropriate spiritual leader where necessary. Services should include therapeutic elements for residents who are mentally impaired, have dementia or are low cognition functioning.
- Offers education and fosters conversations and clarification on a range of topics that allow for residents to express and explore a range of spiritual practices including but not limited to meditation, bible study, book studies, and labyrinths.
- Provides spiritual care and emotional support, during moments of grief and loss. Making self-available to officiate or assist at resident funeral and memorial services when there is no pastoral affiliation or at family’s request.
- Uses clinical assessment skills to obtain and utilize information pertinent to residents’ spiritual and religious interests and to assure appropriate access to religious/spiritual resources in emergency and non-emergency situation.
- Works to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with area clergy, churches and houses of worship, embracing their expertise to enhance knowledge and skills for providing care to residents.
- Provide care that promotes the best interest of the resident demonstrating respect for the cultural and religious values of those they serve, refraining from imposing own values and beliefs on those served.
To be successful in this role you would have:
- Five years directly related experience, knowledge of senior care or medical center facilities
- Ordination or commissioning by one’s faith group to serve as a religious leader and endorsement; or official recognition by that faith group to function as a Chaplain
- Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Divinity, Religious Studies; or certified equivalent

Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Neshama: the Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC), and / or the Canadian Association for Spiritual Care (CASC) preferred
Master’s Degree in Theology, Divinity, Religious Studies; or certified equivalent Associate Certified Educator; or Certified Educator with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE), Inc. preferred
