What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pipe Layer position at White-Spunner Construction?
The pipe layer will be responsible for laying piping systems to carry a variety of different utilities. You will also help install pipes for septic systems and storm drainage. Use a variety of power and hand tools, you should have mechanical skills and manual dexterity. An ideal candidate has completed an apprenticeship with an experienced, pipe layer, or generalized construction experience as a pipe layer.
Essential Functions
Job Responsibilities
Digging and grading trenches to place pipe in.
Laying sections of pipe and completing connections between pipe sections.
Making connections to lines including sewer lines, water lines and storm sewers.
Determine grade of trenching using tools including lasers and transit levels.
Operate cutting equipment to cut various types of piping materials.
Operate small, powered equipment including tampers.
Cut, fit, and seal various types of piping.
Bury the pipes and clean up the job site
Perform other related duties as needed
Job Requirements
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED certificate
Completion of an apprenticeship (preferred)
Construction experience
Manual dexterity
Blueprint reading skills (preferred)
Ability to communicate effectively with crew members including the written and spoken word.
Ability to think logically about work at hand and compare site conditions with project designs.
Ability to perform strenuous tasks with your hands
Ability to kneel, bend, and lift heavy materials
Ability to measure accurately and read specifications
Working Conditions
Normal on-site construction field work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work
environment and job sites can be loud. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
Salary : $44,000 - $78,000
