MECHANIC

Job Summary:

The Mechanic will perform repair work and maintenance for motor vehicles in the company’s fleet. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

·         None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

·         Maintains vehicles, which may include a company’s fleet of vehicles, heavy equipment, garbage trucks, and other motor vehicles.

·         Performs routine and preventive maintenance.

·         Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts.

·         Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems.

·         Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts.

·         Plans and establishes schedule to complete repairs and maintenance.

·         Visits job sites to inspect vehicles by annotating services and repairs in software system.

·         Keeps shop equipment operating and available for use by following operating instructions and preventive maintenance.

·         Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation.

·         Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reviewing and understanding updated technical and regulation publications.

·         Maintains vehicle records and vehicle maintenance records.

·         Maintains a clean work environment, shop, and work area.

·         Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

·         Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle repair.

·         Excellent mechanical repair skills.

·         Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

·         Ability to read and understand service and repair manuals.

·         Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software.

Education and Experience:

·         High school diploma or equivalent required.

·         Vocational/technical school program or apprenticeship in auto repair or related field preferred.

·         One year of related experience preferred.

·         Welding experience is a plus point.

Requirements:

·         Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.

·         Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds at times.

·         Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with odors present.

·         Must possess a valid Texas class B CDL driver’s license and have a clean driving record.

·         Must be able to perform activities involving holding, grasping, turning, pulling, precision manual dexterity.

·         Must be able to perform work on uneven surfaces, frequently climb ladders, work from various heights     

          including making repairs on top of commercial trucks and equipment. 

·         Must be able to work outdoors in extreme all-weather conditions.
