POSITION SUMMARY Coordinating and conducting orientation of all new Facility hires, and coordinating the educational needs of the Facility. This position reports to the Director of Nursing and is an integral part of the management team.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS Current RN or LPN license in the State of Montana and at least two years of experience as a licensed nurse preferred. Non-nursing credentials will also be considered. Evidence of continuing education in geriatric nursing and long-term care preferred. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to multitask, work independently, and flex schedule as needed. Experience in adult education and learning concepts / principles preferred.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supports and promotes practices consistent with the mission, philosophy, standards, policies and procedures of the nursing department and the Facility. Delegates clinical and managerial responsibilities as needed to staff. Serves as leader and a resource to staff in clinical and managerial decisionmaking. Assures staff comply with Facility policies and procedures via completing Facility rounds to monitor and observe staff, as well as, through documentation review; corrects problems and provides education as needed. Identifies problems, reports and makes recommendations for addressing these problems to the Director of Nursing or appropriate supervisor. Identify educational needs based on review of completed incident and accident reports for employees and residents as needed. Participates in developing, implementing, and collecting data for the Facility’s Quality Assessment & Assurance (QA&A) program; identifies own areas for QA&A review in addition to those areas requested by the Director of Nursing. Assists and participates in activities related to Facility inspections or investigations by regulatory or accrediting agencies. Conducts meetings with staff to communicate information and changes or additions in policies and procedures. Completes employee orientation audits and will report summary of same at the QA&A meeting quarterly. Prepares written and oral reports; collects data and compiles information as requested by the Director of Nursing. Assists with clinical emergencies, including CPR and transfers to the hospital for emergency care. Assists as needed in problem resolution among staff, residents, families, and visitors. Plan, develop, direct, and coordinate the educational program for the Facility to include the required programming mandated by Federal and State guidelines. Provides individual and specialized training as needed for staff. Coordinates annual clinical skills testing of CNAs, licensed nurses and other departments; coordinates staff skill competency checks as applicable. Assists the DON in reviewing and updating policies and procedures. Will assist the Infection Preventionist as needed with new hires, etc. Willing to be flexible to meet education needs of employees on various shifts. Meets with residents and their families / legal representatives as requested. Ensures in-service and training materials, information, videos, etc. are up to date. Coordinate Facility wide orientation for all new hires. Develop, implement, and maintain an effective orientation program to orient new staff to the Facility, its policies and procedures, and to their job duties. Follows up with new hires and assures concerns are managed in a timely and appropriate manner. Is available to receive and address any complaints that may arise and communicates complaints to the appropriate supervisor. May perform other clinical duties as directed and not in violation of current department contracts Coordinates CPR training and testing required for certification. Required to keep up to date files of certification renewals. Works closely with scheduling managers to fulfill required certification renewals. All other duties as assigned
