What are the responsibilities and job description for the ECE (Preschool) Teacher - 2024-2025 school year position at Whitehall City School District?
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development; Family Studies; Pre-kindergarten through Grade 3; Pre-kindergarten-Kindergarten Montessori; and Intervention Specialist (Preschool Special Education)
- Associates Degree in Child Development; Pre-kindergarten through Grade 3 licensure
- Be able to comply with Ohio Department of Education Licensing Rules and Whitehall City Schools hiring policies.
Responsibilities:
General
- Conduct oneself as a professional, see NAEYC Code of Ethics (see Appendix)
- Plan and implement a lesson plans in accordance with ODE Content Standards and the adopted curriculum of the C. Ray Williams Early Childhood Center.
- Provide an environment where children are emotionally secure and physically safe.
- Be aware of, and have respect for, children’s individual needs. Concern for their interests, special needs, special talents and individual learning styles.
- Establish and maintain open communication with families.
- Inform new teachers, substitutes, and field students of routines and procedures.
- Administer medication according to State Licensing Requirements.
Specific
- Curriculum planning: Develop appropriate lesson plans that incorporate the goals and objectives of the designated curriculum and meet the needs of the children that reflect the culture and interests of the community the classroom.
- Lesson plans are completed by and posted by 4 p.m. on Mondays.
- Perform formal and formal assessments to scaffold children’s learning within timeframe and intention of Early Program Guidelines.
- Complete home visits and parent conferences within time frame of Early Program Guidelines.
- Participate in family involvement activities and evening center programs.
- Complete at least 10 hours in ODE approved professional development and 15 hours a year for licensing from July 1 through June 30 of the current school year.
- Maintain and update children’s educational folders.
- Maintain children’s portfolios that document child’s progress and is shared with families at least two times a year.
- Develop awareness and empathy for the individual child and the relationship to his/her cultural and socio-economic background.
- Provide an environment that reflects the NAEYC standards and the philosophy of the center.
Health and Safety
- Perform cleaning duties as assigned.
- Maintain a high quality level of health and safety standards.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
- Excellent observation and communication skills
- May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
- Assisting students with behavioral/management needs
- Frequent evening and/or weekend work
