GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Director of Nursing organizes nursing staff to provide nursing care services in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations. Functions to assure the highest degree of quality resident care is maintained at all times.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
Essential Job Duties:
1. Makes daily rounds to assure that the department personnel are performing required duties, that practices are in compliance with applicable regulations and that appropriate resident care is being rendered.
2. Receives and gives report to and from other personnel.
3. Supervises or administers medications to residents, and gives first aid in emergencies. Reports special problems.
4. Ensures that all physician orders are implemented by charge nurses.
5. Communicates and keeps the Director of Nursing and/or physician updated of resident progress and response to treatment.
6. Assigns staff and assures that a sufficient number of professional and non-professional nursing staff are on duty.

7. Exhibits behavior in support and promotion of resident’s rights. Demonstrates
sensitivity to residents’ emotional, social, and mental health needs through skillful, directed interactions.
Other Duties:
1. Assists in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or improvement in nursing care.
2. Responds to emergencies within the community.
3. As required, meets with medical, nursing staff and as appropriate, other related departments in providing nursing care services, programs and activities.
4. Assists in implementing and coordinating department policies and procedures, resident care plans. Assists care givers in assessment of residents.
5. Ensures that patient's right to fair and equitable treatment, self‑determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, are well‑established and maintained at all times. Preserves the dignity and self-respect of the residents at all times.
6. Maintains confidentiality of appropriate employee and resident care information to assure their rights are protected.
5. Reports all accidents, incidents, unsafe/hazardous equipment and/or conditions immediately. Follows and assures established local, state and federal safety rules and procedures. Maintains work area in a clean, orderly and safe manner.
6. Responsible for inventory and safe storage of all medical supplies and equipment. Assures that a stock level of medications, medical supplies, equipment, etc., are maintained at adequate levels.
7. Assists in, organizing, implementing, evaluating and directing nursing care and programs.
8. Attends and participates in workshops, seminars and other professional activities to keep abreast of current changes, current standards and regulations, and professional standards in the health care field. Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
9. Assists in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
10. Performs all assigned duties in a professional manner, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
11. Cooperates with co-workers and establishes good working relationships with all departments. Practices team building and promotes good employee relationships in the department and inter-departmentally.
12. Other duties as assigned.
13. Monitors employees adhesion to community policy and procedures and facilitates warnings and corrective action under the supervision of the Director of Nursing.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • RN currently licensed by the State.
  • At least 2 years nursing experience. Geriatric involvement required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting; must be able to stand/walk for up to 70% of the work day; must be able to lift , transfer, turn and position residents weighing up to 125 lbs. unassisted, or with the assistance of one for a resident weighing over 125 lbs. May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently and 50 lbs. occasionally. May be exposed to communicable diseases including the HIV and HBV viruses. Must be able to work paying close attention to detail with frequent interruptions.
