What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Gardener position at Whitetail Landscaping & Excavation?
Overview
Join our garden crew in maintaining a variety of gardens and landscapes, ranging from
high-end properties to public contracts, and small household gardens. We are currently
hiring for the remainder of our season, which runs through November, with a focus on
fall clean-up tasks such as pruning and closing up garden beds. Additionally,
we welcome applicants interested in next season (April through November 2025).

Duties
- Observing and monitoring plant and soil health in gardens
- Performing basic garden care tasks: weeding, watering, and deadheading
- Fertilizing, composting, and mulching beds
- Pruning trees and shrubs
- Removing leaves and cleaning up garden beds (fall focus)
- Maintaining tools, trucks, and work facilities
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license
- Physical strength and stamina (ability to lift 50 lbs)
- Strong work ethic and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
- Able to take direction, learn systems, and see tasks through to completion
- Positive attitude and eagerness to learn
- At least 3 years of horticultural or landscaping experience
This is an all-outdoor position—our work is rewarding but physically demanding, and
we expect candidates to be comfortable working in all weather conditions.
Job Types: Full-time, Seasonal
Pay: $25.00 - $33.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
