PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to care for all animals at the County Shelter, provide the animals comfort at all times, assist citizens with animal control related issues, and to perform clerical and administrative duties that support shelter operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Rinses, scrubs and disinfects animal cages, hallways, floors, walls, isolation/quarantine areas and all shelter facilities; cleans water and food dishes and related kennel equipment and facilities.
Clean and disinfect all equipment needed for transport including crates, vehicles, and other supplies. Maintains equipment and vehicles; and delivers animal traps as requested.
Prepares paperwork, records and documentation; calculates animal dispositions; enters information into department databases; updates databases and spreadsheets; prepares and/or processes purchase orders and budgeting information; maintains department files; and prepares timesheets and monthly and annual reports.
Organize transport of animals to and from shelters and rescue groups; drives Whitfield County Animal Shelter’s vehicles to and from shelters as needed.
Operates a transit van or similar vehicle to/from distant locations transporting animals to/from designated addresses. Maintaining the animals’ welfare during transport and ensuring proper transfer paperwork is filled out and delivered per rules and regulations
Maintains detailed records of animals transferred to and from rescue groups.
Maintains inventory of equipment, materials and supplies, including controlled substances; and procures supplies as needed.
Receives incoming calls and visitors; responds to inquiries; provides information; advises citizens of animal control issues, animal care, humane treatment, rabies precautions and other related topics; coordinates animal adoptions; and receives and returns animals to/from owners.
Coordinates operational activities with County-retained veterinarian and Sheriff’s Department.
Implements standard operating procedures for disaster plans involving animal control issues, and coordinates activities with the County Emergency Management Agency.

Typical Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one year of experience caring for animals; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
