Description

PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to facilitate the scheduling and dispatch of transit services for the Whitfield County Transit System. Assigns work of bus drivers. Incumbent works under the general direction of the Agency Supervisor. This individual will also operate the Whitfield County Transit System buses to transport citizens to and/or from designated locations as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

As a dispatcher:
Answers multi-line phone that includes a variety of requests for information and rides.
Enters and maintains data in computer as needed; enters and retrieves technical information from a computer in order to perform research, update records, or respond to requests for information.
Maintains mobile radio system contact with drivers and other departmental staff.
Schedules reservations and determines driver’s daily caseload and route order.
Print and review all drive’s manifest for the next day
Coordinates the daily activities of all drivers
Schedule and place same day rides, demand response, for customers
Schedules group service with local agencies, coordinating service with representative of each
agency.
Maintain daily grids of all DHR Coordinated rides for billing each month
Send cancellation and no-show reports to area agencies
Assists with special projects to include nights and weekends when necessary.
Attends and participates in job related meetings, training sessions and seminars as requested by Agency Supervisor.
Maintains up-to-date basic first aid and CPR certifications and emergency response procedures.

Provides locations and directions to drivers and the public using mapping tools.

Operates a computer, printer, radio console, facsimile machine, copier, calculator, multi-line phone, radio communications equipment, TTY/TDD system, headsets, weather computer, paper shredder, or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, or other system software.

When driving a bus:

Safely operates buses over county/city roads at sustained legally allowed speeds, in a manner that fosters a safe and conscientious image to the public;
Conducts safe and orderly loading and unloading of passengers;
Attends meetings pertaining to the job;
Performs routine operator care to include: washing the bus; sweeping interior; refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, checking equipment and reporting defects; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety, cleaning Dispatch office and/or work areas and presenting bus for regularly scheduled maintenance;
Accomplishes and submits mileage reports and bus conduct reports, as required;
Responsible for ensuring all accidents are immediately reported to the Dispatcher Coordinator;

Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure the safety of other employees and the public.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Ensures cleaning list is completed during shift, including sweeping and vacuuming floor, taking out trash, wiping down all surfaces, dusting, cleaning restrooms and kitchen area, shredding documents, and emptying shredder.

Performs other related duties as required.


Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; three years of general office experience, two years experience working with computers using Microsoft Office: Excel and Word, geographical knowledge of the area; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain the following certifications: valid GA drivers license with passenger endorsement.

High school diploma or GED; geographical knowledge of the area; considerable knowledge of: local, state and federal traffic laws/regulations, proper use and operation of two-way radio equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. No reckless driving or driving under the influence convictions within five years and/or fewer than two moving violations within each 12 months of employment. Must possess and maintain the following certifications: valid GA CDL license with passenger endorsement.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bilingual: Spanish-English
Previous experience with multi line phone and mobile radio.
Previous bus driving experience
Valid GA CDL License

Physical Ability: Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, or toxic agents.
