What are the responsibilities and job description for the REPOSTED: Therapeutic Classroom Special Education Teacher position at Whitin Intermediate School?
The Uxbridge Public Schools seeks a dynamic special educator to support students in a therapeutic classroom located at the Whitin Intermediate School. As an essential part of social/emotional/behavioral support for students, this classroom will provide academic and social skills support for students with disabilities, as well as Tier 2 intervention support for students in an incremental inclusive model. This position serves as a special education liaison for students assigned to this classroom, and is a collaborator with general education teachers, staff, and specialists across grades 4-7.
Prior experience in ABA-based instruction, trauma informed practices, restorative practices, or social/emotional skills training is preferred.
Essential responsibilities for this position include:
Planning and providing direct instruction both in the inclusion classroom setting and in small group/individual settings per the student’s IEP
Assessing student learning, monitoring students’ understanding of the general education curriculum, and adjusting instruction appropriately
Consulting and collaborating with general education staff and specialists around student learning styles, differentiated instruction, curricula modifications, and teaching materials appropriate for students with a range of learning needs and abilities
Align academic instruction to general education classroom expectations
Developing IEP goals and objectives consistent with student IEPs and completing related documentation and paperwork in a timely manner
Ensuring compliance with IEP development and implementation throughout all aspects of the special education process in accordance with federal and state regulations
Facilitating annual review and progress update Team meetings, as needed
Administering and interpreting formal and informal educational assessments and preparing written evaluation reports, as needed
Collecting and analyzing student work samples and related data to monitor progress and identify skill gaps
Collaborating with and providing supervision to paraprofessionals/ABA Technicians
Maintaining consistent communication with parents
Massachusetts DESE Licensure in moderate disabilities or an equivalent licensure from the appropriate licensing agency (as applicable) is required
