Job Description
We are seeking entry-level engineers to manage construction projects as part of our team at Whiting-Turner, a leading national general contractor ranked among the ENR Top 25. Reporting to a project manager or superintendent, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Coordinating with project stakeholders, including owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors.
- Managing estimating and bidding processes, tracking costs to ensure project budget compliance.
- Resolving design issues and clarifying specifications.
- Identifying and resolving field issues and change orders.
- Drafting contracts and purchase orders using company boilerplate language to document work, schedules, costs, and technical specifications.
- Participating in meetings to coordinate work and address labor concerns.
- Ensuring work meets quality standards and contract requirements.
- Implementing project schedules, including tasks necessary for completion.
- Documenting project technical, financial, and personnel aspects.
- Reviewing project drawings, specifications, submittals, and change orders.
- Monitoring trade work progress throughout each project phase.
- Providing support to superintendents to maintain contract compliance, quality control, and site maintenance.
- Tracking project phase completion against milestones.
- Setting expectations for managing a safe work environment.
- Documenting project phases.
Required Skills
Whiting-Turner will train qualified candidates to develop:
- A general knowledge of safety regulations, ANSI standards, local and state building codes, environmental codes, and industry-specific guidelines.
- A general understanding of construction processes, practices, and work sites.
- Experience with construction projects, mechanical/electrical systems, building materials, building mechanics, or working with craft workers.
- The ability to read and understand technical specifications, blueprints, technical manuals, product/material installation instructions, and engineering/architectural drawings.
- Proficiency in scheduling, including related software.
Required Experience
Basic qualifications for Entry-Level Engineer candidates include:
- A Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline, Engineering Technology, or Construction Management/Construction Technology.
- An understanding of engineering principles.
- The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Salary Range
$74,000 to $79,000
The salary range is dependent on factors such as role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined through interviews and an assessment of various factors, including job-related skills, education, location, experience, applicant abilities, market considerations, and business needs. The annual base salary range is subject to change and does not alter the at-will nature of the employment relationship.
