The Registered Nurse position in the Emergency Department provides direct care for patients. Responsibilities include assisting, supporting and educating patients and their family members on the process of their illness, the treatment plan, and discharge plan. This position adheres to physician orders and properly documents in patients records. This position maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
General Direct Patient Care
- Provides direct care to assigned patients.
- Performs admissions, discharges and transfers using current and consistent handover process by assisting others with patient’s activities and care.
- Reviews and appropriately implements physician’s orders for all assigned patients.
- Safely and properly administers medications and treatments.
- Notifies appropriate nursing and medical staff to changes in the patient’s status.
- Performs or assists others in performing proper aseptic techniques, isolation procedures and infection control measures.
- Maintains patient’s privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Cares for patients in the optimum clinical environment.
- Adheres to all nursing and hospital wide policies and procedures.
- Participates in all hospital and nursing communication.
- Maintains effective interdisciplinary communication.
- Consults with physicians and other members of the care team.
- Participates in and supervises patient’s meal and special dietary requirements.
- Effectively listens to and resolves concerns/complaints, escalates up the chain of command as needed.
- Monitors all risk management processes.
- Floats to other departments as driven by patient need, including areas such as MSU, OB, and Perioperative Services.
Patient Documentation
- Builds patient specific plan of care.
- Maintains appropriate documentation in all assigned patient records.
- Evaluates and reassesses care given, update patient specific plan of care to achieve desired outcomes.
- Reviews documentation of instructions, teaching topics, and patient response with the Nurse Manager or designee.
Patient Education
- Utilizes all practical opportunities to educate the patient and their families.
- Involves patient’s families and significant others as an essential piece of patient centered care.
- Assesses patient’s understanding of and compliance with instructions and health care teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Licensed as an RN in the State of Washington.
- AHA BLS certified and maintained while employed.
- ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certified within six (6) months of hire and maintained while employed.
- Previous hospital experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
Preferred
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position is primarily worked in a clinical environment. The position will require the ability to lift, and carry, up to 50 pounds and push or pull over 50 pounds. The position will require bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, reaching overhead, sitting and standing frequently. Occasionally the position requires climbing, kneeling and crawling. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation. All basic life functions such as hearing, seeing, speaking, standing and walking are required.

Pay Range:
$37.00 - $66.50
Compensation: New hires should expect to start at the lower end of the range; actual pay offered will vary based on years of experience.
